Sanity -> RE: Buffets Secretary Is a 1%er (1/27/2012 6:03:54 AM)

The deranged, detached-from-reality far left exposes itself when it makes strawman claims such as anyone on the right is against all taxation, or that all tax monies spent are spent on starving babies (blah blah blah).

Heres another example of tax monies spent on politicians' crony pet projects which pad the pockets of the friends of irresponsible politicians

Note to the moderator, this post is on topic because the topic is directly about taxes.

Come on, Sanity, what does the secretary's hubby make? Im sure you can figure that out, since I certainly cannot find a source for that.

Sanity -> RE: Buffets Secretary Is a 1%er (1/27/2012 6:30:15 AM)

You might have a point taz, perhaps the food stamp president should have released all of her records before using her in this manner

Note to moderator, this post is on topic because Obama (aka "the food stamp president) used Warren Buffets poor, poor starving secretary as an excuse to try to get approval for his plan to have the thugs down at the IRS to pursue a policy of class warfare (which again, is tax policy).

Keep trying that, ok?

And, since the woman is still a private citizen not running for any political office, she has no reason to release her IRS forms, which would also require her hubby's permission.

Sanity -> RE: Buffets Secretary Is a 1%er (1/27/2012 7:48:56 AM)

Once she agreed to be used as a political pawn in this manner, and once the most transparent president ever has used her, her tax records should be made public

That, or his argument wherein he used her should be relegated to the same dung heap where every other hollow, half-baked far left argument belongs

Note to the moderator, this post is on topic as it discusses the evolution of tax policy and Warren Buffets secretary, which is directly in line with the OP

mnottertail -> RE: Buffets Secretary Is a 1%er (1/27/2012 7:53:57 AM)

I will point out that the post in no way discusses the evolution of tax policy, and simultaneously point out that as a private citizen, her tax records are as sacrosanct as your own, who; by inserting  into this flatulent miscaracterization and lack of reasoned discourse should by your own words and views release your tax records to the public, and we await them with bated breath.

tazzygirl -> RE: Buffets Secretary Is a 1%er (1/27/2012 8:13:05 AM)

You do have a point. So many have ridiculed and passed judgement on this person, using her tax forms to do so, declaring she could not possibly be paying the tax rate she claims.

Personally, I would love to see those peoples' tax returns, so they can verify their own information.

Musicmystery -> RE: Buffets Secretary Is a 1%er (1/27/2012 8:17:38 AM)

That's because the lot of you are confusing the example with the principle.

It makes no difference what she or Warren make or pay. The point is--readily documented--that sometimes people with very high incomes pay less in taxes than middle class workers. That this is true is not seriously in doubt.

Whether that's a problem is the discussion.

Should loopholes be allowed? Which ones? In some cases...yes, as they attract capital for public good. In other cases, no--the mortgage deduction is a good example, as it subsidizes wealthy homes.

Should the capital gains tax be low? A lot of people oppose this as unfair, citing the wealthy. I actually support this--it's far more than the wealthy. Part of the problem is that people regularly confuse wages with income and wealth.

tazzygirl -> RE: Buffets Secretary Is a 1%er (1/27/2012 8:27:02 AM)

Romney proved the effective tax rate is disproportionate. less than 14%.

You know my position on this, Master Tim. Flat tax everyone.

I'm happy for her as well. Obama should have the same mindset. Being successful should be rewarded, not punished.

How is being successful being punished?

Obama has been trying to tax successful people in this country and give money to the less successful since he got in office.

The constitution is in disagreement with your post.

How does $200 k per year qualify one as a member of the 1%?
It clearly does not, so that leaves us with the question of why the op posted such an obvious falsehood?

Actually, the matter is that he hates millionaires or billionaires who are honest enough to state the condition of tax inequity as it exists, as he was trained to do.

This reminds me that most of the people who harp on Buffett or Soros (both of whom, to be factual about it, the 'left' don't care about one way or the other, Limbaugh et. al. being the reason we hear so much about them) are the same people that complained about left-leaning high-profile actors, claiming that they should just stay out of politics and stick to acting because  they were out of their league.

And yes, thanks for noticing that the same people saying this were the ones who voted for Reagan twice, or even four times in the case of some Californians. That not counting the unsuccessful runs.

erieangel -> RE: Buffets Secretary Is a 1%er (1/27/2012 5:34:12 PM)

One thing to remember is Warren Buffet made his millions when the top marginal tax rate was far higher than it is today.  As for calling for Buffet to just send the IRS a check--I believe that is illegal.  But one thing Buffet can do is instruct his tax preparer not to take the deductions for which Buffet is eligible.

Edwynn -> RE: Buffets Secretary Is a 1%er (1/27/2012 5:42:31 PM)

OK, that was being more than a tad disingenuous about Buffett and Soros. Both are responsible for at least half their prominence in public discussion.

What I meant to convey is that the notion of either of the above being 'heroes' to the 'left' (or 'far left, or 'far left liberals' as ascribed by others, as they were trained to do) is a fiction of right wing AM radio and 'flaky and imbalanced' TV news broadcasters.

The only people that (might) think Buffett capable of walking on water are some greater proportion of those owning stock in Berkshire Hathaway.
