I'm having a computer issue and posing this question annywhere possible in hopes that someone has run into it and would know what to do.
I'm trying to install a new chipset for my motherboard, but the istaller comes back with the following:
"This application has failed to start because the application configuration is inncorrect. Reinstalling the applicationn may fix this problem."

I'm not sure what to do at this point and was wondering if anyone had any insight. I'm not the brainiest when it comes to technical wizardry.

Thanks!

The chipset is built into the motherboard; there's no way to replace it without replacing the motherboard. I'm guessing you're talking about something else? Are you talking about the CPU? Are you just installing new drivers for the chipset?

Yeah, ew drivers. Sorry for the confusing language. :p
This same thing had to be done when this computer first had to "rise from the ashes," but this whole "incorrect configurationn" thingie never came up. This time is a different story. Urgh.

My first guess would be to try downloading them again (to me it sounds like you might be missing files); I'd probably try reinstalling windows if that didn't work. You might want to try contacting the motherboard manufacturer to try to get support, or check their website to see if there's any info on it.

Hello Lilly,

Way back when the world was in black and white, I had one of the very early Macs which came with a measly 1K of processor memory. It had slots for more memory, but when I tried to upgrade it, I discovered that one could put more memory into it than it could handle. It might be that you are up against a compatibility or capacity issue, especially if you are using a third party add-on.

Good luck on that. And if it doesn't work out, look seriously at getting a Mac. They beat the Off Brand all hollow.

It could be any number of issues really. Your information is pretty vague so it's hard to really say. I'll try my best.

It could be old registry entries causing confusion the best bet would be to find a free registry cleaner and download that and allow it to run. You can get a free trial for Tune Up Utilities that will allow you to run their registry cleaner and clean the computers registry using the 30 day trial.

The more info you can post about what you're trying to upgrade drivers for the easier it will be to figure out what it may be.

Are you sure it's the correct drivers?

Also go to the website of the manufacturer and see if there are new drivers or updates that need to be installed.

Could be a registry problem also as someone mentioned.

They're the correct drivers for sure, the exact ones I used last time.

Sorry for the vagueness, haha - my brain was fried by the time I wrote this.

Termy may have solved it for me, though - thanks everyone!
