It is quite a lot to translate. Fortunately the opera singing is not in Italian...

GreedyTop -> RE: Translation please: German to english (1/27/2012 7:55:43 AM)

which is why I asked for a translation from German, yanno, since the opera was sung in German...

A outstanding performance. The aria of the Queen of the Night is one of the, if not the, most difficult to perform pieces of music.

EVery time I listen to it, I am stunned by how intricate it is! and I am in awe of the women who are able to do it.... it is probably my favorite aria.

Granted, both of the Queen of the Night's arias in The Magic Flute rate high in difficulty but there are two others that top them:
(also my Mozart) "Marten aller Arten" from Abduction from the Seraglio and "Grossmachtige Prinzessin" from Richard Strauss' opera Ariadne auf Naxos. (termed by some critics as the coloratura aria to end all coloratura arias).

GrandPoobah -> RE: Translation please: German to english (1/29/2012 3:22:00 AM)

Diane's performance is considered by many to be the ultimate in that role. The entire production is outstanding, and Simon Keenlyside is completely over the top as Papagano. There are many scenes of that production on You-tube, all uploaded by the same contributor. It looks like someone already hooked you up with a translation of the libretto.

I should add that at least part of the attraction is the wonderful acting, in addition to a wonderful score by Mozart and some terrific singing. This production, unlike some others, was not just "singers" walking about on stage, but actors performing as real characters in addition to great voices.

I've heard quite a few versions of this, but I have to say that Diane's is my favorite, by far. And yes, definitely not a phoned in performance!! :)

*sighs* I wanna see a live production of Magic Flute.
