Well we now have a couple of foodie things going so what to was it all down with.
NOTE TO RON. This doesn't include Mad Dog 20-20 0r sterno.

Owing to the fact that new world wines are now as good as old world until you are in the $200 a bottle range I'll start here.

A Chilean Riesling has always surprised me, medium dry for a Riesling called Sur 35 as it's grown on the 35th parallel A lot of taste for the money best served chilled to the point where ones fillings & teeth contract at different rates. Good with just about anything except red meat. But a superb dessert wine.

When I go out I generally get Captain Morgan and Coke. I also like margaritas with top shelf tequila.

At home, I love Argentinian Vida Organica Malbec with acai pomegranate juice on ice. Let the hating begin! I like my plus sweet anti-oxidants minus added sulfites concoction and don't care what oenophiles think.

Conundrum. It's a white wine and...well...it's difficult to explain.
It's a blend of different types of wine (I know that sounds horrible but it's actually wonderful)

This is from the tasting notes: "The wine enters round with a Chardonnay weight then quickly lightens up as the Sauvignon Blanc adds a fresh element. The Viognier adds a spicy character with Muscat Canelli and Semillon adding to the layers of flavors. Explore this puzzling wine as rich aromas of honeysuckle escape from the glass, followed by hints of peach, vanilla and citrus notes. On the palate, lush tropical flavors of melon, pineapple and pear are matched with crisp lemon zest and hints of grapefruit. The complexity of this wine is brought into balance by a rich, round mouthfeel supported by fresh acidity, creating a stunning, satisfying finish."

Thanks for reminding me I have some in the fridge! [:D]

My go to wines are Sauvignon Blance (the fruitier the better) non-oak Chardonays, (fruity, natch) and of course good proseccos or champagnes.

Oh well if we're going to talk about real alcohol and not just wine, I'm easy! Give me a Bacardi and Coke! (with or without the lime)

I have discovered Crown Royal Black. I will have some again this year!

OsideGirl -> RE: The alcohol thread. (1/28/2012 1:20:56 PM)

Lemon Drop Martinis. Master is all about scotch and dark beers.

Although, we have some bottles of 2003 and 2005 Bordeaux that we brought at a pre-sale. They've aged up quite nicely.

Vodka gimlets.

Seabreeze, my Summer Cocktail.

Manhattans, with extra maraschino cherries.

Otherwise, if it aint't single malt.... well, why bother? [;)]

Actually, one shot at my brothers over some forgotten holiday.

Well maybe more than one, and i ended up on the couch over night ... really good isn't it?

Wine and me are not always friends... sometimes it hits me dead wrong. Sulfites? Maybe. It's very allergenic, like beer, so I don't have it often, though I enjoy it. Not enough to spend big money on it, though.

Sounds like Crown Royal Black, or Southern Comfort Manhattans, are a much better bet! [;)]

Also explains why i was ordering wine by the glass! [:D]

My bread and butter wine is a Riesling I get through a friend who buys it directly from a small winery. Just the perfect balance of fruit, sweetness, and acidity. A good, fruity Cardonay, or a delicious Gewürztraminer are among my other favourites.
For a longdrink I go for cokes and rum, cocktails mostly daiquiris or a hurricane, but I do like the sweet mixes using Baileys or something similar as a dessert.
An icewine or a Trockenbeerenauslese (sorry, I can't fing an English term http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Trockenbeerenauslese ) is a wonderful ending to a great meal.
If it comes to sipping something in the evening, preferably in front of a fire, I love port wine, and a good single malt is appreciated as well.

Soyokaze -> RE: The alcohol thread. (1/28/2012 2:41:24 PM)

I can't stand wines and beers. If I'm ordering drinks white russians is usually what I go for, or I just ask for anything sweet and see what I get. Otherwise, Blueberry/pomegranate juice + absolut vodka is really good. I'll also do shots of citrus rum (going to try other rums once I finish my current bottle). Sometimes I'll drink hot coco and peppermint schnapps. It's pretty rare that I actually drink though at most a few drinks a week usually more like a few drinks a month.

OsideGirl -> RE: The alcohol thread. (1/28/2012 2:56:09 PM)

For whites, I prefer Pinot Blanc, but they're hard to find, so I usually settle for a Chardonnay.

tazzygirl -> RE: The alcohol thread. (1/28/2012 3:01:50 PM)

Hard drink, I prefer a Ginger Grant.

Wine, my favorite is a blend called "The Other". If thats not available, a Riesling or Torrontes will be just as good depending on the food I am pairing it with.

BoxwineForBrunch -> RE: The alcohol thread. (1/28/2012 3:07:10 PM)

i don't drink. it violates the tenets of scientology.

sometimes i slip up and guzzle a few white russians.

Ninebelowzero -> RE: The alcohol thread. (1/28/2012 3:37:19 PM)
