DarkSteven -> I despise Santorum (1/29/2012 9:46:49 AM)

but I wish him well dealing with his daughter's illness.  http://politicalticker.blogs.cnn.com/2012/01/29/santorum-cancels-events-after-admitting-daughter-to-hospital/?hpt=hp_t2

And I'm glad he has his head screwed on straight enough to be a family man rather than a politician now.

slvemike4u -> RE: I despise Santorum (1/29/2012 9:50:15 AM)

I'm with you in despising Santorum the politician,I know far too little about Santorum the "family man" too assume that he does,indeed,have his "head screwed on straight"....so I will not comment on that part of it.
Of course I wish him all the best in dealing with his daughters illness.I would wish no man/woman any less.

provfivetine -> RE: I despise Santorum (1/29/2012 9:57:00 AM)

I think it's great that Santorum is speaking up for his beliefs and that he wants to preserve his culture. Just don't force it on me.

Well he is running for a public office,in large part on a platform of his beliefs.....so in effect he IS trying to force it on you....and me,hell all of us.
Hence my despising him in the first place....lol.

I dont like Mr. Santorum nor his politics. I do however pray that his daughter's health improves as quickly as possible!

Lucylastic -> RE: I despise Santorum (1/29/2012 10:28:40 AM)

Feeling the same as DS, despise the man but for what his daughter, his family are going through right now, is not something I would wish on anyone.
Bless her heart, its tragic and beyond politics.

Hillwilliam -> RE: I despise Santorum (1/29/2012 10:31:31 AM)

Sending best wishes for Santorum's little girl.

SternSkipper -> RE: I despise Santorum (1/29/2012 10:35:32 AM)

The instinct to protect his own is THE LEAST one should expect from a politician. Hope his daughter feels better soon.

SilverBoat -> RE: I despise Santorum (1/29/2012 10:48:02 AM)

Trisomy 18 is a tough one, best wishes for her.

A family man NOW? Really? He was well aware of the child's condition all the while he was out and about campaigning. Wonder why he was not at home being a family man all these past twelve months. Sympathy, but zero good guy points.

Hillwilliam -> RE: I despise Santorum (1/29/2012 11:12:22 AM)

Vince, trisomy 18 is one of those things that is typically not survivable. The fact that she is 3 means that she has gotten amazing care thusfar. What's the guy supposed to do? Is he supposed to put on a hair shirt and stay home all the time. He's doing what any head of the household would do. He's out there scratching and trying to make a living to support his family.

I detest the man and his policies but I'll support his actions in this and wish that little girl all the best.

Will, the man is a lawyer and lives in a multimillion $$$ house. And since when is the Presidency of the Nation a job for supporting the family? He did not need to put on a hair shirt but he coulda stayed close to the hearth and daughter imho.

defiantbadgirl -> RE: I despise Santorum (1/30/2012 8:55:59 AM)

I wish Santorum's daughter a speedy recovery. She has no control over who created her. I also hope Santorum knows his daughter would be dead without his Cadillac insurance paid for by the taxpayers. If he wasn't a politician, the "Obamacare" he wants to repeal didn't exist, and he had private for profit health insurance, he would be in massive debt with a deceased daughter uninsurable due to her pre-existing condition.

Whoa whoa... I was not aware Santorum had his insurance paid for by the tax payers. Mind cluing me in on this?

http://www.factcheck.org/2009/08/health-care-for-members-of-congress/

WASHINGTON — They don't receive "Cadillac" insurance plans, but when it comes to health benefits, studies suggest members of Congress are at least driving the best Buicks on the block.

Congressional lawmakers, embroiled in a debate over how to provide coverage to 46 million uninsured people in the country, paid less at the doctor's office under their own insurance than the national average in 2008 but also shelled out up to 13% more for premiums, the studies show.

http://www.usatoday.com/news/washington/2009-06-23-congress-benefits_N.htm

It could be that he is entitled to that insurance for life. But his insurance plan is no different than any other employers.

And, while I dont like the guy, there is enough to attack him on without attacking on things that are only half true... or not true at all.

fucktoyprincess -> RE: I despise Santorum (1/30/2012 10:06:24 AM)

I wish Santorum's little girl the best.

But I do also hope that, regardless of how they are paying for her care, that this reminds the Santorum family of how important medical care coverage is to a family. If they are able to pay their bills through some combination of insurance and out-of-pocket expenses that is great, but I wonder if they pause for even one minute to think of the many families in this country whose children have to go without healthcare.

My thoughts are with their little girl. And my thoughts are also with all the other children out there who face illness - and whose family cannot afford appropriate treatment. They are all equally deserving of concern.

I agree.

Rick Santorum
> Estimated net worth: $880,000 – $1.9 million
> Major accomplishments: Senator from Pennsylvania, Fox News commentator
Rick Santorum was a member of the House of Representatives in the early 1990s. He then became a senator from Pennsylvania until 2007. Santorum was a regular contributor to Fox News, a columnist, a consultant to an energy company, and a member of a conservative think-tank in D.C. According to Politico, the former senator’s public financial disclosure lists Santorum’s net worth as being between $880,000 and $1.9 million. According to Pittsburgh-based site Early Returns, most of Santorum’s assets “are tied up in rental properties he owns around the Penn State campus and college savings plans for five of his children.”

Trisomy 18 is an expensive disorder. It could have wiped out their finances with ease. I would hope he would remember all those who had no insurance. I dont bank on it.
