Wheeew! You had me worried there for a minute that I was mistakenly posting false information, ArtCatDom. Thank you though for going through and finding the exact information in the merchant agreement.

Not at all. Thank you for understanding I made an honest, if hasty, error. I appreciate it. Posting the correct information was the least I could do to make up for my mistake.

The OP means on a DEBIT card -- I thought. Credit is not debit.

Credit and debit are still done through Visa/Mastercard transactions, using the same system and drawing the same fees for merchants.

Oh wow. Well- from a former cashier stand...we could more less insist on method of payment of our choice- as a merchant. If such was illegal is isnt enforced. Or wasnt.

It may or not be illegal under your state law but it is a violation of the contract with the card processing company.  I recently bought a motorcycle with my Discover Card and the seller wanted to tack on a fee equivalent to what they would be charged by the processor.  I said "fine" but then insisted that the fee be recorded on the bill as a credit card fee.  They went white and told me they'd forgive the fee.  They knew damned well if I contacted Discover, there would be a good chance that I'd get a refund taken out of their virtual hide and might even lose their credit card priviledges.

I used to run an internet company that used credit cards and I made it my business to read the entire agreement.

Having been in the night club/ bar business and a similar business for nearly twenty years, I can tell that there are EXTREME benefits when dealing with cash as opposed to a swipe of a card and book-keeping entry.

While having never utilized a minimum-dollar-amount purchase policy, at almost every step of the way I'd employ every psychology trick in the book I could think of in order to get my customers to adapt and pay in cash. And yes….I’d also offer cash discounts for regulars with a nightly tab.

The other side of this argument for me is, the whole issue that surrounds the promotion of a cashless society and how messed up that would be. But that’s a whole different issue [;)]

Apesadumbrado, ningún efectivo de las tarjetas de crédito solamente!

the little convienient store that i work in, does get charged a $2 fee for every time we use the debit machine... we use it was a credit card machine... and yes, we do get charged for it... that is why we have to have people spend at least $10... when i have people spend like 9.95, i let it go... just because that's dumb... but i'm sorry, but i don't see why we shouldn't be alowd to do that... most ATMs charge you at least $2 to use them, and if it's a differant bank than you use, you get charged by your bank as well... also, you have to pull out at least $20 in most of them (at least around here).... but you're telling me that it's not legal for a store to do the same thing that an ATM does?  bull Shat.....  thanks....
