Apparently the school wants the student to learn that no good deed goes unpunished.

"cancer survivor suspended for wanting to donate"

Well, no.  He was suspended for violating the school's dress code.

He was suspended because the school feels their sex discrimination is more important than his good deed.

It's nowhere near being ready to be donated and the school offered a compromise:

http://www.detroitnews.com/article/20120128/METRO/201280350/School-suspends-cancer-survivor-over-long-hair-he-plans-donate

Gaskins said his hair has to be at least 10 inches long in a ponytail for the donation. Right now, it's about 21/2 inches, he said.

The school's student handbook posted on the district's website requires boys' hair to be "clean, neat, free of unnatural or distracting colors, off the collar, off the ears and out of the eyes."

Since his hair isn't very long yet, Kneer said he proposed that Gaskins use styling gel, put the hair in cornrows or simply comb it to comply with the rules.

"I need his hair out of his eyes and off the collar," Kneer told the Associated Press. "I really want this boy to be back in school. I feel like combing his hair wouldn't be a big concession … He doesn't have hair down the middle of his back. It's an inch over his collar."

Gaskins said the recommendation for cornrows "doesn't even sound like a compromise."

How many females wear styles where hair hangs in their eyes? I believe long bangs and side bangs that often end up hanging over one eye are fairly popular right now. Are you truly in favor of sex discrimination or is your dislike of me clouding your opinion?

Wrong, but thanks for playing anyway.  Here's a copy of our home game as a consolation prize.

Does girls' hair also have to be off the collar, off the ears, and out of the eyes? If not, it's sex discrimination.

You are so mean Stef. Don't you know that feel-good feelings and self-expression are much more important than an education? Sheesh!

Indeed.  And why let the truth get in the way of a "fighting the man" rant.

Unless the school's hairstyle code is the same for girls as it is for boys, there's no question of sex discrimination here. The issue appears to be irrelevant to many of you. Instead you'd rather gang up on the OP like a bunch of pre-teens.

So. . . If I know someone that needs a kidney transplant, I could kill a person with a transplant match in order to donate a kidney. I know that killing someone is against the rules. . . but I really want to donate.

And the process of getting an education is compromised how?
Are is the importance of conforming more important than the education,as it will be difficult to be educated while sitting out a suspension .

Are you going to push for them to have only unisex bathrooms? The same types of PE classes? Will you insist on the exact same school uniforms? Bras and boxers for all?

Why don't we just take this discussion to it's most ridiculous possible scenario....oh wait, you just did that.
Sorry carry on with your flight of fancy

Because appearance and self-presentation do matter. To other people and yourself. Grooming actually does affect your state of mind.

True Aylee, but would it not be possible to show a little adult thinking in this case and allow the young man to grow his hair out for donation .Who knows it might actually spark the young boys and girls in this school to actually,I don't know, think of others while they receive that education.

Hey, I can get much more ridiculous!

Frankly, I get sick of this. Actions have consequences. If you want to break the rules, that is fine, but you need to be willing and ready to deal with the fall-out. The school gave him some options that would allow him to fulfill his donation desire and the dress code. He wants to do it, "his way" instead and so he needs to deal with the result.
