Lost In Translation: Because Of Twitter Joke, Brits Denied Entry To U.S. The joke was on them, I guess. Perhaps, in this cautionary tale, there is a bridge of understanding across the culture gap. Some of our UK posters, it seems to me, simply can't get their heads around why some Americans could possibly be opposed to an ever expanding, ever more powerful, government presence in our lives, and so attribute it to all sorts of malice, ill will, bigotry, and racism. Consider this story, and consider this; Our government is already full of low-level, power tripping, jackasses just like this, thank you very much, and we'd just as soon not have them turning up in more places. [:D]

I am guessing this particular Brit hadn`t had to deal with your immigration control before Rich. Anyone who had, would have thought twice about making such posts. The question that arises, is how much privacy can be taken away from us, in the name of security. The talk of the FBI being able to scrape words from twitter and such, doesnt bode well for free speech. That said, I am not against security per se, if it saves even one life in a terrorist attack. Last time I flew to the US was in the aftermath of the "Liquid bomb" plot (Same week) and it took me three hours just to get through security at Gatwick. A total bummer but a price worth paying in my view.

Frankly I can think of worse papers in the UK for being economical with the truth.

I like how federal agents were looking for spades and shovels in the suitcases for the unofficial exhumation of Ms. Monroe as if they would likely take such things on a trans-atlantic flight! [:D] BTW the Daily Mail gets it wrong like most media outlets, and crossed the line pretty badly a few times but I didn't think it was hugely unreliable generally speaking.
