This article got me thinking about relatively speaking just how little of their pocket money the Koch brothers have to shell out to do thjings like bring down the labor movement in America, or say get a former exec for the Medical Insurance Industry Elected to US Senate right around the time you want to repeal healtcare. It's an interesting article and when you figure this pair is worth more than 40 Billion dollars, what they spend for what they get is a better bargain than we'll ever see in our lifetimes....
"By Howard Goodman

Could it be that students at Florida State University have a deeper understanding of academic freedom than their professors do?
The FSU Student Senate has introduced a resolution denouncing the university’s acceptance of big donations from a foundation run by the billionaire Koch brothers to fund positions in the economics department — and to have a say in who gets the appointments.
David and Charles Koch, septuagenarian owners of one of the world’s largest privately held companies and each worth about $20 billion, are prominent funders of groups that believe that government regulation is stifling American business. They’ve been increasingly active in politics as actors behind the scenes, using their deep pockets to promote tea party groups and anti-union governors including Wisconsin’s Scott Walker. Our own Florida Gov. Rick Scott admitted in June that he snuck away to a Koch brothers’ invitation-only retreat for conservative politicians in Vail, Colo. — a trip that wasn’t on his public schedule."

This is well worth investigating. How much have the Koch brothers personally benefiited from the activities of the various deluded political activist groups they finance?

To get some idea of the amount of money at stake, here's one example.
Here in Australia, there was a Govt. proposal to introduce a tax on the mining industry's super profits to share the benefits of the current mining boom across the country. The mining (moaning) industry went ballistic and financed a $22 million ad campaign against the tax. The campaign was successful and the Govt watered down its original proposals considerably. The result:

"The cut-down tax that resulted reduced the expected revenue yield from the mining tax from $24.5 billion over three years to $11.1 billion. Over a full decade, the difference is a loss to the revenue of $60 billion, according to the Treasury's modelling.

Money well spent by anyone's standards wouldn't you agree?

They own a pretty good number of VERY LABOR INTENSIVE, ENVIRONMENTALLY IMPACTING, FINANCIALLY 'CREATIVE' corporations within and without the boundaries of the United States globally they are often referred to as "The Lumber Industry" among other things. Tell me you've never heard of Boise Cascade.
Ummmm yeah ... it's worth investigating alright.

Some time ago, I read that expose in the "New Yorker' about how the Kochs were financing the Tea Party. There was quite a bit in that article on how the Kochs had benefited financially from manipulating well-meaning but deluded citizens to amend environmental laws to the Koch bros' advantage.

It seemed to me that the Australian experience pretty much mirrored this pattern. The amount of money involved for a relatively small country like Australia might help Americans understand just how much is at stake here, and the extent to which the 99% are being ripped off by the 1%. So I hope it contributes in some way.

Any timberlands under the Aussie Govt's control? You just might want to check and see if Boise Cascade or it's affiliates have been doing biz in your neck of the woods. These guys are the quintessential globalists. The locals here on CM always point to George Soros and relatively smaller players as being the threat.
These guys have carved their initials in the world's rainforests and have made a game of the republican party. Hell, it wouldn't be a shock to me if this whole Republican Primary Circus was some kind of  "Pygmalion" bet between the two ... Or between them and some other big right wing player.
This is kinda how they work

Gotta send out the otherwise unemployable (or marginally employable, to be more kind about it) troops in promotion of a company with business model of environmental destruction and siphoning of muchas tax dinero, don't you know.

Pretty College dropouts keep the old men from jumping off the bus when they're gassing up in Atlantic City.
