Lucylastic -> Are they trying to out "ugly" each other (2/2/2012 12:44:28 PM)

Republican presidential candidate Rick Santorum told the mother of a child with a rare genetic disorder on Tuesday that she shouldn't have a problem paying $1 million a year for drugs because Apple's iPad can cost around $900.

Speaking to more than 400 people at Woodland Park, Colorado, the former Pennsylvania senator said that demand should set prices for drugs.

"People have no problem paying $900 for an iPad," the candidate explained. "But paying $900 for a drug they have a problem with — it keeps you alive. Why? Because you’ve been conditioned to think health care is something you can get without having to pay for it."

The mother replied that she could not afford her son's medication, Abilify, which can cost as much as $1 million a year without health insurance.

"Look, I want your son and everybody to have the opportunity to stay alive on much-needed drugs," Santorum insisted. "But the bottom line is, we have to give companies the incentive to make those drugs. And if they don't have the incentive to make those drugs, your son won't be alive and lots of other people in this country won't be alive."

"He’s alive today because drug companies provide care," the candidate continued. "And if they didn’t think they could make money providing that drug, that drug wouldn’t be here. I sympathize with these compassionate cases. … I want your son to stay alive on much-needed drugs. Fact is, we need companies to have incentives to make drugs. If they don’t have incentives, they won’t make those drugs. We either believe in markets or we don’t."

I would like to think that they are just exhausted and making a lot of mental and verbal fuck ups. But I am not certain whether that is giving them too much credit or not.

Even so, as a leader of the free world, making dipshit mistakes like that could cause a lot of potential problems.

Which is why I don't think our current president has anything to worry about, as far as his career, in the next 4 years.

mnottertail -> RE: Are they trying to out "ugly" each other (2/2/2012 12:48:53 PM)

Fact is, we need companies to have incentives to make drugs. If they don’t have incentives, they won’t make those drugs.

But there are alot of countries that are not paying the massive incentives we do.   Why is that, Rickie?

fucktoyprincess -> RE: Are they trying to out "ugly" each other (2/2/2012 1:21:03 PM)

Yes, and didn't many of us on the other Santorum threads already suspect that he would have no real sympathy for other people's children.....[sm=ofcourse.gif]

mnottertail -> RE: Are they trying to out "ugly" each other (2/2/2012 1:25:40 PM)

No one would accuse what passes for republicans as having a vigorous social agenda, that would be actually instead of rhetorically going back to their roots as they proudly claim.

Capitulists, they are.  But they pronounce it capitalists as a sugartit to the pablumites.

DarkSteven -> RE: Are they trying to out "ugly" each other (2/2/2012 1:53:12 PM)

Just a hijacking side note:  I have no idea why Santorum was in Woodland Park.  It's got a population of 7600.  I would have expected him to speak in Colorado Springs, which is a solid GOP stronghold.

mnottertail -> RE: Are they trying to out "ugly" each other (2/2/2012 1:58:25 PM)

Well, don't know that its a hijack (yours or this), but I am sure with his showing, he is looking to big up in the republican machine, angling for RNC Chair or an administration job should Romney win, and money and (well alotta reasons, those are main) so he is sort of hitting the boroughs for some face and not getting in there and hitting on the big boys.

Really? You wonder why a guy who uttered the following paragraph in the context of his presidential speech to explain the logic of something, would pick the place with the LEAST available voters? Really?

"People have no problem paying $900 for an iPad," the candidate explained. "But paying $900 for a drug they have a problem with — it keeps you alive. Why? Because you’ve been conditioned to think health care is something you can get without having to pay for it."

I'm surprised the guy isn't primary campaigning in California this week based on that.

Shit no wonder people in Florida so vigorously support the Oxycontin Dr. that'll make you feel like you can fly in your sleep for $20

LadyHibiscus -> RE: Are they trying to out "ugly" each other (2/2/2012 4:15:38 PM)

I used to have retirement savings, instead I have health insurance and medication. That's how it works when you're employed in America.

Hanging out in the RNC chat last night was so much fun... they're all sitting there typing "We gotta be the people with the vision to lead..."
The the next line they're giving you the URL for a pre-fab Obama rumor spam thing you're supposed to distribute.
Then there's another guy glad handing everybody who comes in, asking them half a dozen questions and hitting them up for money. AND NOBODY OBJECTS ....Never seen anything like it.

SternSkipper -> RE: Are they trying to out "ugly" each other (2/2/2012 4:27:07 PM)

In my misspent youth I never spent this much to catch a bux here's an American "Discount" site where 30 tablets are $531

Price: $531.00 Select Size $21 a Pill??????
That's ridiculous but it explains the Bunny Boiler here on Collarme... she's probably saving a fortune not taking her meds

Sheer brilliance.  Santorum just invented the iPad bubble.  All we have to do is take the $900 that every single one of us had stashed away, that we were planning to blow on an iPad, and spend it somewhere else.  He just fictionally stimulated the US economy to the tune of $900 apiece and didn't spend a dime of federal funds to do it.

Woodland Park and Colorado Springs had a coin toss and Colorado Springs won?

Yes, you've discovered the central theme of the Republican approach to health care. Their domestic policy on health care is actually one of the simpler planks of the Republican platform and it goes like this.

"Fuck the sick. Health care is for people like us."

Basically, Republicans appeal to people's personal greed. It's a complete annihilation of the values for which Americans have fought and died throughout history. This is because every idiot thinks that one day he'll be rich and he doesn't want policies in place which touch any of his money. The fact that voters don't run the odds and realise the chances of them getting rich are FUCKING small is one more piece of evidence which shows that the GOP really doesn't appeal to anyone with brains or ethics.

Going up to the most expensive ones: 90 pills of 30 mg the annual cost is $30,288.00; not $1,000.000.00

Fuck, me too. Exhilirating, isn't it? That thrill of dodging/ignoring the letters and phone calls from the debt gangsters because you had to choose between dying now or dying later?

Amerikkka - what a country!!!
