I love Vancouver, TJ. I thought it seemed like a very livable city.

What you are talking about in terms of land use makes a lot of sense. In this state, though had any government attempted such a thing, the Building Industry Association would have sued them into oblivion.

It is quite liveable.. It has a lot of parks, some huge ones like Stanley Park, etc.. and lots of beaches, recreational areas like Whistler not too far.. But it does mean more people live in condos and pay a high cost per square foot for housing.. that doesnt mean there arent McMansions there tho..

I think sprawl is everywhere in the US.. Southern California is amazing in how huge cities sprawl into each other.. It is a very strange place, there is Prop 13 which restricts cities/counties in how much they can increase property tax so instead the financial burden gets dumped onto new construction.. so the cities/counties have a vested interest in seeing as much new housing being built as possible.. There is no government entity in the US that wasn't dependent on endless growth, TJ. Of course, the rest of us long time residents were required to pay for the infrastructure to those developments. Now the rest of us are stuck paying for that infrastructure, even though the developments ultimately failed. It really sucks. And Oregon and Washington were so proud that they "weren't going to turn out like California" and then did exactly what California did.

There are many jealous liberals here on collarme that hate big homes and people who have done well.

One has to ask why do you project all of your frustrations onto liberals?
Are there no conservatives or independents who are jealous of anothers acquisitions?
Are you suggesting that only conservatives do well financially?

If a large home is what someone wants, they should buy it and enjoy living there. Worry about your own life and leave the rest of us alone.

The logical extension of this position would be that if you were on a lifeboat, would the richest have first call on the food, water and space?
