ORIGINAL: Iamsemisweet I love Vancouver, TJ. I thought it seemed like a very livable city. What you are talking about in terms of land use makes a lot of sense. In this state, though had any government attempted such a thing, the Building Industry Association would have sued them into oblivion. It is quite liveable.. It has a lot of parks, some huge ones like Stanley Park, etc.. and lots of beaches, recreational areas like Whistler not too far.. But it does mean more people live in condos and pay a high cost per square foot for housing.. that doesnt mean there arent McMansions there tho.. I think sprawl is everywhere in the US.. Southern California is amazing in how huge cities sprawl into each other.. It is a very strange place, there is Prop 13 which restricts cities/counties in how much they can increase property tax so instead the financial burden gets dumped onto new construction.. so the cities/counties have a vested interest in seeing as much new housing being built as possible..
