What correlation would that be?

It's been noted in a number of studies, here's a recent one with an abstract that's rather descriptive on the subject

The present study examined whether IQ relates systematically to denomination and income within the framework of the g nexus, using representative data from the National Longitudinal Study of Youth (NLSY97). Atheists score 1.95 IQ points higher than Agnostics, 3.82 points higher than Liberal persuasions, and 5.89 IQ points higher than Dogmatic persuasions. Denominations differ significantly in IQ and income. Religiosity declines between ages 12 to 17. It is suggested that IQ makes an individual likely to gravitate toward a denomination and level of achievement that best fit his or hers particular level of cognitive complexity. Ontogenetically speaking this means that contemporary denominations are rank ordered by largely hereditary variations in brain efficiency (i.e. IQ). In terms of evolution, modern Atheists are reacting rationally to cognitive and emotional challenges, whereas Liberals and, in particular Dogmatics, still rely on ancient, pre-rational, supernatural and wishful thinking.

Ahhh, the old IQ gambit eh? Who'd we use that against the last time, anybody remember?

I don't think it's insulting at all.

I'm a Christian...have been since about 18 or so...and I'm a contractor, manufacturer, inventor, have products in probably around 30 or so countries, actual revenues from maybe half that and....guess who I've been fucked over by the most?

Christians
Doctors
Lawyers...

(And in precisely that order).

Anyone that tells me "you can trust me, I'm a Christian" or has a little Christian fish on their letterhead or business card....

I run as fast as I fucking can and grab my wallet as tightly as I can possibly do so.

While our professional backgrounds are pretty dissimilar, it would appear that our experience of Christians has led us both to precisely the same conclusion.

Like you, when any one tells me "trust me I'm a Christian" I run as fast as I can in the opposite direction.

Fucking hypocrite.

Bishop Eddie Long settles sexual misconduct suit out of court

05/27/2011

Georgia megachurch preacher Bishop Eddie Long has settled out of court with four young men who accused him of sexual misconduct, Long’s spokesman said Thursday.

...Beyond his sizeable and influential church ministry, Long is well known for his anti-homosexuality messages and activism against same-sex marriage, a perceived hypocrisy that only inflamed his critics.

With the case settled out of court and representatives from both sides claiming that no further details will be released, it is possible that the public will never know the truth behind the allegations against Long. This tension between transparency and privacy in allegations of sexual misconduct against clergy members is not unique to Long and his ministry. In recent years, many religious organizations have struggled with the principle of ‘innocent until proven guilty’ in the face of allegations of sexual impropriety. For a few examples, see the cases of Fr. John Corapi, Ted Haggard, and the Vienna Presbyterian Church.

To believe that this makes him a paedophile, you would have to also believe that Michael Jackson was.

Unfortunately, people with means and some notoriety (even on a "small" scale) are frequently targets for accusations like this. I'm not saying they're not true. I am saying we can't assume they're true because this person may have wanted to lessen the damage to his character in the court of public opinion.

On the OP: I find it almost amusing that people can spew just about any hateful thing they want as long as they chose their targets wisely. The word "Christian" or words: "Follower of Jesus (Christ)" are huge umbrellas that encompass a lot of people.

Painting all with one brush isn't exactly a page out of Carnegie but ...

Peace and comfort,

Michael

fast reply

I agree that if anyone tells me to trust them because they are a Christian, I run like hell. Christians show what they are by their actions, and the way they live their life, not by screaming from the rooftops "Look at me, I am a good person!"

The title of this thread was said with much sarcasm. I was raised by a man, who in every thing he did, showed he was a Christian, but he never went around proclaiming it. Even those who had no idea about his religious beliefs, knew him to be a good man, who would help anyone he could.

I want us to be saved from the so-called followers, like Eddie Long. The amount of damage they do to so many lives is sickening. And, yes, he is the one who settled the case about having homosexual actions with teens for many years. He who preaches against homosexuality. I guess we could be grateful he is a hypocrite about everything huh?

I might, but I can honestly say in 52 years, no one has ever said that to me.  So I can't really be sure what I would do.

So you answer that atheists are of higher IQ, act rationally and then you proceed to avoid explaining the correlation you state exists which IS what I directly challenged. Since you brought up IQ, are you a moron?

Your statement-
Certainly not all christans are morons but you can't blame people for noticing the correlation.

My challenge-
What correlation would that be?

Now, if one were to correlate IQ as to comprehension, whose IQ is higher? Yours or mine?

I can't say that I've ever heard anyone say that directly to me, either. I have heard, though, someone comment on the trustworthiness of another person based on whether that other person is a Christian or not.

http://en.wiktionary.org/wiki/moron

http://dictionary.reference.com/browse/moron

Well if we're basing things on comprehension of the link you posted, it's not looking so good for you.

http://www.iqcomparisonsite.com/IQBasics.aspx
Mental deficiency used to be more finely classified using the following technical terms that later began to be abused by the rest of society (5):

IQ Range Classification
70-80 Borderline deficiency
50-69 Moron
20-49 Imbecile
below 20 Idiot

These are now largely obsolete and mental deficiency is now generally called mental retardation.

Hmmm. Lets see. From your earlier post -

(obsolete) A person of borderline intelligence in the former classification of mental retardation, having of an intelligence quotient of 50-69.

What does obsolescence have to do with my comprehension of a known term; moron? I asked a simple question which a simple "no" response would have sufficed. You're acting as if I had made a pejorative statement which is simply not the case.

I lived in Fl for 10 years. Maybe I just didn't hang with the right crowd. [8D] but having thought about it a bit, I would probibly ask them why it would matter. It reminds me of the threads where people seem to think doms are automatically trustworthy because of the title or subs never disobey. Deep down inside, people are just people. You will find good and bad everywhere you look.

There is the South... then there is the south. Florida has the highest percentage of seniors... most called Snow Birds because they either travel back and forth when the snow flies or melts or they moved to Florida to take advantage of both the weather and the tax breaks. Florida also has a large immigrant population. Florida also has a high level of veterans, second only to California.
