Rule:  "Bioharzard" isn't just my avatar, it's my livlihood. I deal with bioterrorism & biological threats, including pandemics, infectious & communicable disease...and other public health threats.. every day.  You have...no......clue.

You have exciting work. Lots of cloak and dagger and people dying in "traffic accidents" and found floating in rivers, I imagine. And who do you trust? Your boss? A judge? A politician? A co-worker? A milkman? A police officer? An agent from a secret service? Your wife? None of them, of course: they can all be affiliated with the sociopaths that released the anthrax bacteria in 2001, the West Nile virus in New York, or the HIV.

Yesterday I was googling a bit for suspicious deaths in the biological warfare business, and guess whom I ran into? Timmy McVeigh. That was a surprise.

It is good that I have no clue. Anyone who does is likely to turn up dead.

Actually, most of it is quite mundane.  A woman convinced that terrorists have put white powder in her foot powder and now she has white powder all over her bedroom slippers. And wants me to package it up and send it to the lab for testing. Other days, it's much more practical.

If nobody died, it isn't dangerous. Likely she has psoriasis and she is shedding, or it is mold, or cigarette ashes.

The sociopath who released Anthrax took his own life rather than face trial.

That is so interesting. Hey, I have got a treasure map. It shows the approximate location where a Spanish galleon sunk, somewhere in the Caribbean. I have got a fear of water, so you can buy the map from me real cheap. Make me an offer.

West Nile was a result of those terribly covert miniature terrorists, also known as mosquitoes.

Really! [:-] I am glad that you cleared that up. You know so much! I bet you know the price of old iron too? It so happens that I own a pile of derelict iron in Paris. It is still some kind of tourist attraction, but - in confidence - it actually is quite decrepit and I have got to have it scrapped. I have been trying to sell it to local iron mongers, but they for some unfathomable reason consider me to not be trustworthy! I say! But I dare say that such a solid character as yourself will be heartily embraced by them when you offer to sell them the tower. So how about buying the thing from me and selling it on to them? You stand to make a nice profit. Just make me an offer. The pig iron in it is just over seven thousand tonnes.

you didn't google hard enough--Timothy McVeigh was executed for what at the time was the deadliest domestic terrorist incident in US history--but he had no tie to bioterrorism--his method was ammonia nitrate-based explosives.

I somehow doubt that you did a google. [8|] Otherwise you would have found this link.

There was nothing suspicious about his death--he was proud of his atrocities and deserved to die.

Quite. And he did die. But nothing is forever and fairly quickly he wasn't dead any more. I wonder what he has been up to since.

This thread was about immune systems and blood type, no?

Quite. Hence I have started a new thread on treasure maps and piles of old iron.

hausboy -> RE: Treasure maps and piles of old iron (2/3/2012 10:56:16 PM)

The foot powder was miraculously.....foot powder. We knew it was bullshit, but we came out, tested it, and provided her reassurance. The woman was completely delusional, but I gave her the same professionalism and courtesy that I would give anyone who calls in a suspicious substance, in spite of being an enormous waste of my time and resources.

I didn't need to google McVeigh or bioterrorism--I am quite familiar with both topics.
There are folks convinced that Elvis, Michael Jackson and Bin Laden are still alive too.  You may want to sell your Eiffel Tower to them, unless they are too busy reading conspiracy blogs on the internet, where we know everything must be true.[8|]

In fact, part of my job is being able to determine what threats are credible....which ones aren't. Who is delusional and dangerous....and who is just delusional.   It comes in useful--even here on CollarMe on occasion.

edited for typo
As for your piles of old iron....your thread is piles of another thread:  http://www.collarchat.com/m_4019857/tm.htm

It is good that you suffer from a lack of paranoia. That is a huge factor contributing to low stress levels. It is no wonder that you are so eminently sensible, in contrast to the paranoia prone. It is also good that your job enables you "to determine what threats are credible..." And you are so gallant, seriously investigating foot powder and not sending the lady a bill for doing so. You are a genuine Samaritan!

Are you going to start a thread on Elvis and Michael Jackson now? They have a lot in common. For example: they were both singers, you know? Osama bin Laden not so much, I think - but maybe I am wrong in that.
