You were actually given helpful advice about how you write.

There just is no nice way of saying this, OP: Text speak is for your phone. This is a discussion forum and using text speak here makes you look like a lazy idiot. Now, if that's how you want to appear, kewl.

However, if your responses to date are a representative example of how you come across to others, no wonder you are having issues finding a real live person to mentor you. Who wants to give their time to help an asshole who does not seem to appreciate it?

Joe, the deal is...those who are likely to mentor..... we are mostly going to be older folks....not gonna be big in textspeak or punkishness....just sayin'...

You have a profile that says Charlotte, there is a reasonably big kink community in the area, and if you get thee to a munch or two in the area, it should be reasonably easy to find a mentor out of the many folks there are to choose from, anyone wanna give him links to munches in Charlotte?

Welcome, good luck, and happy journey.

Ron

Ahem.

I think what my colleagues are trying to impress upon you is that if you do not take the time to state yourself clearly and concisely then you can expect to get hooked up with a basket full of intellectual mouth breathers.

While you may have found the advice given in a disrespectful manner, I would remind you that this is text-there can be no connotation unless you take it that way, because you miss tone, inflection and body language to be specific in discerning what is being said to you.

The fact is, the people who have explained to you about your speech do so so that as a group we can more readily ascertain what it is that you want exactly.

You will find, once you get beyond taking your paper dolls and going home, that the boards are full of intelligent, funny, insightful, and helpful people.

What you do with the advice, and how you take it, is not our responsibility.

Thank you for the info.  However my job makes me very publicly noticed...and yes likely in this lifestyle, so I don't know if going to something public is actually a good idea...but since I obviously don't give much of a shit what other people think I probably will go anyhow...who knows might sell a few more albums for me.  And even living in Charlotte I'd of never guessed it had a big kink community...seems like just a bunch of....*insert whatever adjective here*.

Once again thanks.

My thought is a munch, not a play party (a munch being a get together at a restaraunt, nothing kinky except the rotella pasta).  Get to know some of those folks, in a very everyday setting, cuz for a mentor you are gonna wanna have a real keen edge and convergence to your wavelengths.

An older and experienced you is sorta what you are going to want to look for, right?

Some of it was excellent advice most of it was people complaining about how I write, rudely. I work in the entertainment business and have a high profile job that requires a lot of contact with people via Twitter that only gives a person 140 characters to say what they need to say.  I now natrually write everywhere in "twitter speak".  Amazing that people take offense to such trivial things.

Hey Joe welcome to the forums.

It's kind of funny, but like the style or not, you got what you were asking for right? A mentor is an adviser or a guide. It may not have been in a form that appealed to you but you were offered advice and guidance.

Being in the business that you're in I might think that you'd pay attention to how people are telling you that you come off image-wise. In a written medium that is not character restricted you would do well for yourself to appear as the intelligent guy you undoubtedly are. Sometimes you only get that one chance to make an impression, you know? Spelling, grammar, punctuation, all that boring stuff counts for a hell of a lot. I think you'd rather be admired for your way with words than looked down on for the mistakes. So anyway, that's my mentoring for the day   Good luck with finding someone in real life.

Excuse me.  Didn't I give you several ways to find munches, events, and groups in your area?  Were you just so upset about people not liking your text speak that you neglected to read a word of what I typed?  Now my feelings are hurt.

If I am treated with disrespect right away...I'm not sure what you expect back.  My first response was someone "ordering" me how to type, I don't take orders.  I take advice.

While you may be used to text speak due to a limitation of characters, it is usually wise to know your audience and medium. In a forum or email, text speak comes across as lazy or unintelligent.

No one wants to mentor someone whose first initial impression is that they are lazy. Is it really more difficult to spell "one" instead of using the number "1"?

Is "some" really more difficult than "sum" (it really is only one additional letter)? The two are homonyms, but have VERY different meanings.

When all you have is the written word to convey your thoughts, shouldn't your choices of words place you in the best possible light?

Attention to detail is important in both doms and subs.

Well as a complete newcomer to this board, I was unaware of proper etiquette.  I learned fast and it is sheer habit to write in text speak for me.
