Ramarley Graham, 18, was shot and killed by a NYPD officer in the Bronx on Thursday afternoon after running into his home as undercover officers pursued him. He's the third person the NYPD have killed in a week. According to the police spokesperson, he was unarmed.

Paul J. Browne, the New York Police Department's chief spokesman, said there was "no evidence that he was armed" when the officer, a member of a narcotics unit, shot him once in the upper left chest, the New York Times reports.

After the shooting, police did find a "small amount" of marijuana in the toilet at the home. So this boy lost his life over a small amount of marijuana even though the NYPD Commissioner had ordered a stop to the arresting of people for simple possession of marijuana.

Possession of small amounts of marijuana is not illegal in NY, as long as it not in public view. And yet in 2011, NYPD have made over 50,600 arrests for small amounts of pot with their "stop and frisk" policy which then causes the pot to be out in the open.

The war on drugs has become less a war on drug use and addiction and more a war against the poor and people of color.

Does this mean that the NYPD has to kill 6 young white men next week?

One of the bad guys shot first, the second grabbed an off duty officer, pretended to have a gun, and attempted to rob him.

The first article, where the man was chased into his house and shot, sounds a bit fishy to me, but the other two sound like they played the game and lost, tough shit on them.

I think trying to link the three and make it racial is, well, racial in its self.

He didn't get shot for marijuana. He got shot for running and reaching.

And what was he "reaching" for? There is nothing in the article that claimed he'd been reaching for anything at all and I tried to find other sources of this story. I couldn't find one. Not even in NY city newspapers.

That's the question an adrenalized cop were asking himself.

I'm sitting here, just a little too lazy to do the math but maybe somebody will take it as a puzzle. New York has 8 million people, and cops have shot 3 black men in a week. A city around here has 150,000 population, and the cops have shot three since October. (One maybe could have been contained into an armed and barricaded standoff, with a possible better outcome, one was a run and reach, the last... well, a tweaker charged the cops with a sword.)

I wondered about that comment. In the article it said "“It’s likely the story will thicken and the NYPD will argue the cop acted in self defense, but right now it looks like the cops killed a kid trying to get rid of a little pot,”" But it doesn't explain how the cops were supposed to know what he was going after. For all they knew he did have a gun in the house and was going for that. If he didn't have anything to hide, why did he run in the first place.

When the government can explain how they are able to stop a tsetse fly from entering the country, but they can't stop the flood of drugs, I'll have more confidence they really want to stop it.

When the government can explain why the sentencing guidelines for possession of drugs is so disparate, I'll have more confidence that poor people are not the target for the Prison Industry Complex. P.I.C,

Yes. I not only believe in aliens, I am an alien[sm=abducted.gif].

This issue, to me,is more bout training that racism.Police officers all too often are unprepared for the real situations they encounter in the streets. It comes down to the fact that these are young men, often scared, pumped up with adrenaline, and armed....this is a recipe for disaster for the community.

Civilians are all too often totally ignorant of the situations faced by police.

How about you explain why you believe poor is synonymous with drugs. A bit stereotypical, isn't it?

There are lots of poor people who make the choice not to mess with drugs. The government doesn't go around handing out drugs and then arresting those who take them.
