TED: Green Bronx Machine

This is something I believe anyone in this country can get behind and support. Helps communities, teachs kids a wide range of skills, makes a neighborhood greener than before, and is a way to lower costs for food stamps/welfare while growing a community's business investments. My only two critisms of this would be:

A) Give this guy an additional 16 minutes of 'air time'.
B) Have more displays on stage of the very stuff being talked about.

God bless that man! I'm sorry to see that the program was stopped. I'd be interested to know why.

Looks like a Tea Party hit to me...  A lot of programs that have shown success have gotten shut down because the schools have to pinch every fucking penny and crumb they're thrown. Maybe Jamie Diman should step in and right one of those $4,000,000 checks he writes to the police when he wants protester's heads bashed in by the police.

Shut this down? Who is dumb enough to shut this down? Drag 'em out in the middle of the street and EXECUTE 'Em.

I like the TED presentations. Sometimes I share a distant relationship to the topic, but still usually facinated by the presentor and the information given. In the Green Bronx Machine, I see something that inspires our young adults (and even younger) to enjoy learning, develop an assortment of new skills they would never have gotten, and increase their self esteem/self-dignity/self-worth by leaps and bounds. The presentor was just enthusastic the whole time. And to hear this product is shut down, is simply......stunning!

If I had the resources, I'd hunt this guy down personally, ask him "What does he need to get this prodject going again? And maintain it in the classroom/community?" And put those resources forward. Time & money well spent as far as I can see. My observation has been, when children are enjoying learning things they tend to not just learn MORE things but branch out into new ideas and concepts. Isn't that what we want in our schools across the country?
