A good profile shows its owner in a good light, but honest.  Back in the old days of alt, I had a woman reject me because I wasn't athletically inclined enough for her.  My profile did its job and told her enough about me that neither one of us wasted time.

Submissive, bisexual, willing to do poly AND illiterate.  Don't forget that part.

You're looking for an extremely small segment of women. Submissive, bisexual and willing to be in a poly relationship. You have a lot of competition....and most of that competition presents themselves far better than you do.

I accept literates on a case-by-case basis.

Iamsemisweet -> RE: The Perfect Profile (2/8/2012 12:33:14 PM)

The perfect profile is one that gives just enough information for the reader to decide if it is worth taking 10 minutes out of their busy day to meet you for coffee

JanahX -> RE: The Perfect Profile (2/8/2012 12:42:22 PM)

A profile should reflect what the person is wanting from the site in hopes that it will generate the response the writer is looking for. It is also might contain what you would consider important facts you would like strangers to know about you.

I have often thought, it is perhaps not the best way for many to portray themselves, being the written word is one of the hardest medias to master in order to have ones thoughts/feelings comprehended by others the way the writer would like them to be. (god knows I have to edit almost everything I write.)

Thus the wisdom remains in the profilers hands of whether or not this is the most productive way for them to open doors to get their needs fulfilled.

~FR~

I do not see this ending well.

OP: Try www.iespell.com for an add on for Internet Explorer that will do spell check on text windows for websites. Be truthful and put as much in your profile that tells the reader about who you are as a person, and what you are looking for. Yes, punction and spelling will help considerably.

If you started this topic just to rant about the critique you received with your introduction, then it also tells a lot about you. Remember, everything you post on the internet will always be somewhere on the internet.

Buzzzz -> RE: The Perfect Profile (2/8/2012 1:49:39 PM)

If someone knew about the "perfect profile" , I would hope that that person wouldn't reveal it. It would make for a lot of "false advertising ". We already have lots of that already.

JanahX -> RE: The Perfect Profile (2/8/2012 2:12:12 PM)

On this site, if your writing is not up to par, there are also the options of presenting a video profile and/or an audio profile. These two options can give additional insights to the person, as the video may include facial expression, where as both the video and audio will express tone.

I have found that the additional ways to include tone - eg: italic/caps/highlight/Bolding, etc. in writing is almost what I would conceive as an advanced state of writing, but if someone knows how to use it correctly, I do see it as an important value. From my experience on this site, seeing someone capitalize on this technique is rare, especially in message exchanges. Not using it, may lead to misconception in communication.

I would suggest that one of the first steps to a perfect profile would be to refrain from telling people to suck an egg. But perhaps that's just me.

OrionTheWolf -> RE: The Perfect Profile (2/8/2012 2:27:10 PM)

This is actually an awesome suggestion! I had forgotten about that. I think they came out with the audio shortly after I joined long ago. Audio and video would make it more personal, and easier to see some of the things about the person.

So are you going to start side work and write profiles for people? What are your rates?

I've listened to several audio greetings on the other side. If you have the voice for it, then good Lord, do it.

:)

The perfect profile is the one that gets you what you seek.  If your profile is being ignored, then apparently it is not perfect.  If people are contacting you because of your great profile, then it must be perfect for your needs.  Also, even if you attract all kinds of good attention to your profile you still have the problem mentioned in paragraph 3.

My profile is practically perfect, because I don't attract a bunch of HNGs.  (only an idiot once every 6 months)  The profile is doing what I need it to do.  It explains who I am and where we live.

Quite frankly I feel the internet it not always the best place to find a relationship.  I would guess that more than 90% of those you meet online are not who or what they say they are.  So why waste so much time over someone who is not what you seek?   It's so much easier and nicer to wow someone with a great personality in person.  If I were looking again I would attend every munch and event I could afford to attend.  I'd make friends.  I'd network.  The odds are opposite for real life events as in over 90% are really into BDSM and not pretending or looking for an online fantasy.

I wish they had the option to upload an audio. I tried clicking "make an audio entry to your journal" once, and (from what I remember) bogged my computer down. I may try it again sometime, but I wasn't well-pleased when I tried it. (just the one time)

LadyHibiscus -> RE: The Perfect Profile (2/8/2012 3:18:11 PM)

I'm really pleased with my current profile. It's blunt, it's hostile, and there are plenty of adjectives.

He did clarify that last part.....he meant that if either of the existing couple became ill, the submissive had the right to release herself. Which goes right back to the profile being so bad that it couldn't be understood.

OrionTheWolf -> RE: The Perfect Profile (2/8/2012 4:27:26 PM)

I suppose I should use my DJ voice then ;). I used to DJ an internet radion station 2 nights a week (4 hour shift) and Thurs at a local Industrial BDSM club that is no longer in existance (damn posers ruined it).

Nah, I will just use my low growl voice.

I am going to play with it some though. I am not looking or anything, but it might be cool to do a nice intro in audio and see what kind of comments I get.

I agree. I've run into a similar problem (not quite the same issue - I don't have a microphone but I do have a separate voice recorder) and wound up wishing I could just upload an audio like we do a picture.

Ah, okay. Not just me. I'm not able to use the audio either so none of ya'll can hear my sexy (okay, maybe not that sexy.. more like gravelly; is that a word? lol) voice (well, unless you want to call me!) :D
