Ok, so I discovered the whole smoothie thing about a year and a half ago.  Yes, I know, I am a bit slow to jump on the trend wagons.

Love the smoothies, but since then I've been lusting after the juicers, but not really wanting to spend money on one.  Lucky me, my mom had an unused Jack Lellane Power Juicer just gathering dust in her pantry, so I liberated it.  With her blessing, of course.  Although, can't say I wouldn't have tried to sneak it out under my coat, if she'd said no!

Now, I"m trying out different things and wondered if anyone here has a juicer recipe they'd like to share.

Also, any idea how to get the blade off without the crescent tool, or do I have to suck it up and just order one?

Did you like the J.L. Power Juicer?  Have you tried others and prefer another?

Oh, and again, any recipe that you'd like to share?

I used to juice all of the time when my ex was battling cancer.
Every morning I would make a big batch of apple, carrot, beet (just a tiny amount...it can be very overpowering), cabbage (see the side note for beets) and ginger juice.
It tasted great and was full of fantastic things for your body.

WinD,

There is a movie out about a man who was 300 pounds and had an
autoimmune disease who decided to take a juice tour of America.
He made the movie so he would have the financial incentive to stay
with it.  It is entertaining, informative and even somewhat inspiring.
His website has a bunch of juicing info and links.

Yes,  Fat Sick and Nearly Dead  is the name of the movie

I dont have my juicer with me right now but i used to juice whatever i felt like.. mostly the green (broccolli, lettuce, cucks, celery, wheatgrass) and red (red peppers) veggies.. and 1 apple.. sometimes i would add a small slice of fresh ginger..

I have read you shouldnt mix veg with fruit other than apple, cant remember the reasoning or know if that is true or not..

If you dont have it, you should google the dirty dozen list of veg to buy organic.. for juicing especially i would use organic veggies, the last thing i wanted was a concentration of pesticides etc with my good juice.. [:'(]

I would use up the juice asap, that day if possible, next day for sure.. you are supposed to be able to freeze juices tho..

Aileen,  I'm sorry to hear about your ex's battle with cancer.  I hope he won that battle, and is doing well now.
Your recipe sounds delicious.  I wouldn't have thought of ginger, but now as I peruse links, I'm seeing it in a lot of recipes!

Outlier, thank you for that link.  I was watching the short testimonials, which were very interesting.  Having auto-immune disorders (connective tissue diseases) I'm very interested in seeing if this helps.  I've been looking up recipes online, and find there are many valuable resources out there, but recipe sharing with people I (sorta) know is fun too.

tj444, you bring up a good point about organic.  After working at an oil refinery for 14 years, I do wonder if toxins from the plant, as well as my diet; attributed to my connective tissues diseases/auto-immune disorders.  I really hope to undertake a square foot gardening project this year, and grow most of my veggies.  Hopefully, if I start juicing now, I'll have the energy to undertake that project [:D]

I ran across this soup recipe today by Dr Joel Furhman, it uses several cups of carrot juice instead of stock.. thought it was interesting, some of his vids are interesting as he talks about anti-cancer food (which if you are concerned about toxins is good to look into), he has a book too (check your library or find used online?), etc...

I just like freshly-juiced tangerine, clementine, and especially Minneola Tangelo juice. I have a case of clementines in the car. I've got a Nutone motor in my prep area countertop and it has a juicer attachment. Might do some up tonight.

I make my own V-8 juice (not recently, though). Usually it's a V-7 because I can't always find watercress; I almost always put too much beet in, too.

I haven't had my juicer available for awhile, can't wait till I can get back to it.

One of my more often juices was 3-4 medium/large carrots, one apple, 2 stalks celery and yes, the ginger. Carrot/celery/beet is good, but as you have been warned above, go easy on the beets in the beginning. Two-three carrots, spinach, dark leaf lettuce, one celery, with (optional) 1/8 to 1/4 of a lemon- rind and all (less at first, use to taste). Fruit juice; (primarily) grapes, 1/2 apple, 1/2 stalk celery, same amt. lemon as previous, less ginger than with a carrot juice if you use it here.

The Jack LaLanne is good for a cheap juicer, that's what I have at the moment (or will soon). There are better juicers for a good bit more money. To get the blade/screen off, pull up by the plastic base beneath all that; a mild jack-hammer-like action from underneath. The JL juicer is not the most efficient, but if you start gardening juicer pulp is great compost.

When I juiced a lot I went through two stout Champion juicers (~ two yrs ea.) because I put coconut through them a lot, maybe not always as slowly as I should have. Which is why I did not give you a coconut/carrot 'milk of gods and godesses' recipe (it's that good) because trying that with the JL juicer might give you one ounce then bye-bye juicer.

In any case, once you've gone through a few recipes, you'll just start making it up as you go. That's where the fun is.

I'm glad to hear of your good experience with the smoothies, and hope your juicing adventures go at least as well.
