Carol and I went into it with a slow & steady sort of mentality. That works for some and not for others. For us, I just picked a few areas that were not likely to be problematic and took control in those areas. As things progressed and opportunities came up, I'd ask about some new area. At some point it wasn't worth asking any more.
If it helps you any, I'm not sure what you think of as "10", but it's still one of life's great joys to command her to heel. That closeness... physical and otherwise... is pretty much the big payout for us.
