Conservative Outlet Shows 20% Of Republicans May Vote For President Obama In 2012

http://www.addictinginfo.org/2012/02/10/new-poll-conducted-by-conservative-outlet-shows-20-of-republicans-may-vote-for-president-obama-in-2012/

The Republican Party is tearing itself apart and many conservative voters are considering abandoning the sinking ship to vote for none other than President Obama in 2012.

According to a poll conducted by Wenzel Strategies on behalf of conservative publication World Net Daily, 1 in 5 Republicans will vote for or are leaning towards voting for President Obama in the upcoming Presidential Election in November.

World Net Daily says that the election this year is shaping up to be a repeat of 2008, mostly because of the political bloodbath between Mitt Romney, Rick Santorum, Newt Gingrich, and Ron Paul. When President Obama was matched up with each GOP candidate, a consistent 20% of Republican voters leaned toward voting for the President.

As Fractioned as the republican party is becoming, I can see this happening.

If Gingrich or Santorum gets the nod, I could see moderate Republicans voting for Obama out of pure fear of Santorum of Loathing of Gingrich. (and not just in Las Vegas)[8D]

If Romney gets the nod, I could see some Republicans also holdng their nose and voting for Obama on the theory that "Better the devil we know than the one we dont".

2008 saw a lot of what we at the campaign offices called the "Obama Republican" and 2012 will be no different. Many of those same voters will continue to vote for Obama. They are, after all, the constituency Obama has been playing all along.

The WND is indeed, as billed, a right-leaning publication.  But this shows bad reporting.

Evidently Wenzel did the polling by phone.  This ignores the population that does not own a phone.  I'd argue that GOP phone non-owners are less well-off than GOP phone owners, making the results slightly skewed.  Also, the factors mentioned as favoring Obama - the recovering economy and the negative intraparty campaigning - seem to be guesses.  I'd like to see followup questions - if a voter indicated favoring Obama, ask them why instead of conjecturing.

Finally, some idea of how likely the polled people were to actually vote would have helped.

There's no way that anywhere near 20% of real/true Republicans would even think about voting for Obama. Dream on.

But remember a good percentage of Democrats that make up the Tea Party ,as much as 15 percent according to a Gallup poll, may vote Republican.

And what would you say if I told you that 20% of Democrats would be voting for the Republican candidate for president? (A far more likely scenario given Oblunder's piss poor performance.)

I'd say that if he's that awful that 20% of his own party would vote against him, why would a Dem vote for him?  I'd also ask you to come up with a poll to support your hypothesis.

There was a poll taken approx. 3 weeks ago that said most people don't believe polls.

Another poll said 92% of polls are not statistically incorrect.

I really can't help to think that the Republican/conservative/right-wing (whatever ya want to identify it as) party members really do not want to win.

With the bulk of what is being said by the people who may be representing the party- i feel like the election is just being handed over....in the same way Bush Jr's (can't speak on senior's...not being born/too young and everything) was with Kerry.

This is meant out of true curiosity, but really- is this the best you guys could come up with?

Come on, there has to be somebody out there worth voting for. Or are the ones who would have a good shot living under the ideal of "if nominated, i will not run; if elected, i will not serve."?

The whole thing just feels like a joke.

Being moderate, I really would like to have both sides present something to really secure my vote.

My problem with Ron Paul is simple. Some of his ideas I could completely embrace except that he has other ideas that I find abhorrent.

MasterJaguar01 -> RE: Con-poll shows 20% of repubs may vote for President Obama (2/12/2012 2:43:45 AM)

Ron Paul is a Libertarian ideologue. I agree with many his ideological viewpoints, but he lacks any cohesive plan to execute on them.

He is great for the political debate, but would make a disastrous president.

That being said, he is by FAR the best the GOP has to offer. (sad)
