Kaliko -> Vitamin Water Question (2/12/2012 5:34:42 AM)

I drink a lot of SoBe zero calorie vitamin water. (No artificial sweetener, no artificial colors.) Only two flavors, as I've researched each individual ingredient and only drink the two flavors that don't have a certain ingredient or two that I don't want. (I don't even remember what they are, now.)

If I am using an intake of water goal as part of my everyday fitness, can my vitamin water count toward my water intake?

Water is water no matter what may be added (or not added) to the water. It is still H2O. It is still processed the same way by the body, though it may take a few extra steps depending on what might have been added to it.

It is water. So are coffee, tea, milk, etc, though some might disagree! [;)] the vitamin waters are just enhanced with things that won't affect absorption.

Thanks! :)

Things with caffeine don't count as much as those without. Caffeine is a diuretic so 8 ounces of a caffeinated drink probably is the equivalent of 6 hours of plain water. Other than that, it's one for one. You could drink chicken soup and it would count.

I'm a Vitamin Water Zero fan myself, I think it's the peach mango one, can't remember the name.

<---- fan of Glaceau Vitamin Water, Dragonfruit.

It's sweet, so I dilute it with water, unless I am using it post-scene to prevent sub drop.

I am drinking a gallon of water a day as part of my fitness program. I have found an unsweetened carbonated and flavored water that Iike, and that has been helpful in getting me to a gallon. I do worry about the plastic involved, though. It is both wasteful, and I do wonder about the health affects of drinking from plastic bottles. Anyone no where the science is on that issue?

http://articles.mercola.com/sites/articles/archive/2008/07/31/the-terrible-truth-about-plastic-you-never-knew.aspx

Soda bottles, water bottles, peanut butter jars and cooking oil bottles: Made from PET (polyethylene terephthalate), they leach acetaldehyde -- a probable human carcinogen, according to the EPA -- into your food and drinks.

Toxins, Endocrine Disruptors And Carcinogens That Migrate From The Molecules Of Different Plastic Containers To Their Contents

PET: Polyethylene Terephthalate

Used for: Soda Bottles, Water Bottles, Peanut Butter Jars, Cooking Oil Bottles

What migrates from plastic container to contents: Acetaldehyde

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Polyethylene_terephthalate#Toxicity_of_PET

Commentary published in Environmental Health Perspectives in April 2010 suggested that PET might yield endocrine disruptors under conditions of common use and recommended[14] research on this topic. Proposed mechanisms include leaching of phthalates as well as leaching of antimony.

[see Estrogenicity of Antimony, and Leaching of Antimony from PET]

...The evidence suggests that PET bottles may yield endocrine disruptors under conditions of common use, particularly with prolonged storage and elevated temperature. Important questions for future research include the following: What substances in the water are responsible for the estrogenic effects observed in the bioassays—is it one or more of the phthalates, and/or antimony, and/or as yet unidentified substances?

Not true..........

If I add steak, sour cream, a baked potato and some Crown Royal to that water....there could be a spike.

I've been drinking a lot of milk lately. Skim. I view it as basically enriched water. Vitamin D good. I'm avoiding fruit juices; going with fruit instead.
Fruit + water = better than juice.
