This is one of those, "deal with the devil," situations, and I hope the families of the newly confirmed victims take every nickel, and his tv set.

Two childhood friends and locally renowned troublemakers, Wesley Shermantine and Loren Herzog, were eventually arrested in 1999 for a series of murders known as the "Speed Freak" killings, and many of the missing were presumed to have fallen victim to the methamphetamine-addled duo.

Shermantine and Herzog never disclosed where they dumped the mutilated corpses of their victims, leaving bereaved families with only grim speculation.

And then years later came an unusual offer: Shermantine would tell all for $33,000, enough to pay off his restitution order and buy a television and other comforts for his death row cell.

I favor torture in this instance to find the locations of the bodies.

There's a little tiny Constitutional issue there, Hotch, and not a shred of an "imminent threat" cloud that might, on occasion, create the gray area where it might get trumped. Keep it legal, right up to the moment he finally reaches execution. This guy's partner in crime got paroled over coercion issues on his confession.

I had thought there was a law that prohibited criminals from making money from stuff like this.

In some states...yes,in my home state of New York it is known as the Son of Sam law,for reasons that should be obvious to just about anyone .

I would think there might be loopholes.. like the criminal doesnt profit directly but money is given/put in trust to the wife, kids, parents, etc instead of to him?

Unless there's a Supreme Court ruling I'm missing, I think we're clear of the 8th Amendment (Not punishment, confession or obtaining evidence used in legal action) Of course there's those pesky UN conventions and associated laws... Bunch of goody two shoes!
