I don't think most realise just how authoritarian right wing leaders are.  Joe and Jane Schmo don't quite get it: they are the children; the right wing leader is their Dad.  The Dad knows better.  The childen are dependent upon their Dad, in this case to guide them in their morals.  They're 'naturally made' to lead; the rest of us are 'naturally made' follow.  And if we're talking about females rather than males, that is even more the case, natch.

There's no point in talking about 'right to control one's own body' to these people.  They don't buy the fundamental principle behind it.

Interesting thought.

The Catholics are pissed off that they have to offer BC as part of their insurance packages.

Why aren't the 7th Day Adventists equally pissed off about insurance packages that offer to pay for blood transfusions?

Seems they were busy being pissed off over this.

sounds like a case of religious privilege to me.

Hey Firm, are ya snipped or do ya use condoms every time you've ever had sex?

BTW, oral contraceptives are widely used for women's health problems, not just for birth control.

It isn't really about the 'right to control one's own body'.
In cases of abortion it is about the right to control another (unborn) person's body.

In cases of birth control it is about who has to pay for your right to control your body (i.e., if you want my rosaries off your ovaries, don't expect me to pay for either your abortion or your birth control...pay for it out of pocket).

........I guess we just found a "right to fuck without consequences" in an umbra or penumbra of the Constitution?!.......
Firm

I would say if one is concerned about consequences, anyone restricting women from contraception and doesn't personally wear a comdom or get snipped is a hypocrite.

Personally, I found the crude spin of expressing responsible sex as 'sex without consequences' (that implying some taint of irresponsibility) to be quite amusing.

It absolutely is about the right to control my own body, for me.  If males were to have the ability to get pregnant, and I were to become pregnant myself, do you think that for one minute I'd allow the State, or anyone at all, to tell me what I could and could not do with what's happening inside my body?  Not a chance.

Too true!

Finally, a bill I can support. Minus the xenu/pregnancy thing of course.

Riiiiight. I guess giving up half a paycheck because a woman made the choice for him to have his kid doesn't count as a consequence.

That bothers me, that the pregnancy is considered the consequences of sex.  The child itself outweighs the gestation.

And I've known mothers that did squat for their children after birth.

I agree, DS. I have known children who would have been better off raising themselves than being raised by the mothers, or fathers, they had.

Yet, it always comes down to the notion that the worse thing that can happen to a woman is that she ends up with a child.

How many men know of the complications associated with just being pregnant? I am not referring to raising the kid. Not referring to any moment outside of the uterus.

I am talking about the complications related to just being pregnant and giving birth.

Iamsemisweet -> RE: What the fuck is wrong with these people?!? (2/14/2012 8:11:01 AM)

But I gotta pay for health care for your 10 kids? And I only had 2? How is that right? If people want to have litters, they should pay for education and health care out of their own pockets.

You could end up paying for her 10 kids even if abortion was free. Might be interesting to note the Duggar family has 19 kids, dad was part of the Arkansas Congress, owns multiple real estate investment holdings and is a real estate agent.

Then, on the flip side, you have the mom with 15 kids, 12 of whom are still small, who demanded that someone pay for them.

Watched the video, Tazzy. The mother is right, someone needs to pay for her kids. I vote for the anti choice, anti contraception religious right. They should practice what they preach

If one could prove she wanted, and attempted, to obtain an abortion and was denied, then I could agree with you.

Iamsemisweet -> RE: What the fuck is wrong with these people?!? (2/14/2012 10:52:27 AM)

It shouldn't matter. The religious right claims every human life is sacred and we should have as many children as god sends us. I don't feel that way. I believe public assistance should be limited to no more than two children. Bet she wouldn't have had 15 kids by age 37 if it were. So, since this is my fervent belief, why should I pay for social services for morons with big families?

How do you separate your tax dollars from the others?

As far as having children while on TANF...

A child born after July 1, 1998, who was conceived while the
parent received TANF benefits, will not be eligible, unless the
child is conceived as a result of rape or incest.

http://www.nd.gov/dhs/info/pubs/docs/dn-248-tanf.pdf

And there is a 60 month limit on these benefits.

I do get your point though. My feeling is that is she is that fertile, she should have looked into sterilization, which Medicaid would have paid for...

Sterilization Services

Sterilization procedures performed in the inpatient and outpatient hospital
setting are for the primary purpose of rendering a recipient incapable of
reproducing and are voluntary procedures reimbursable by Medicaid. The
following criteria must be met:
• The recipient must be at least 21 years old at the time of signing the
consent form.
• The recipient must be mentally competent and not institutionalized in a
correctional, penal, or rehabilitation facility or a facility for mental diseases.
• A Florida Medicaid Sterilization Consent Form must be correctly
completed at least 30 days prior to sterilization. This form is valid for 180
days from the date of recipient’s signature. Consent for sterilization
cannot be obtained during:
Ö Labor, childbirth, or an abortion.
Ö A period of time when the recipient is under the influence of alcohol or
other agents affecting awareness.
• When premature delivery is marked on the consent form, the expected
date of delivery must be entered. There must be 30 days between the
expected date of delivery and the date the consent form is signed. If
premature delivery or emergency abdominal surgery occurs between 72
hours and 30 days following the consent signature, an exception is
allowed.
Note: See Chapter 2 of the Florida Medicaid Provider Reimbursement
Handbook, UB-92, for a sample of the Sterilization Consent Form and the
instructions on how to complete it.

The option was hers.
