Some say the Culture wars are back, what with the contraceptive controversy, the ascension of Santurom in the Republican process(wow, put this man forth and just sit back and cut your own throat, second tier status is assured)et al.
Do you agree,do you think the wars ever abated ?

They never went away - heck, the misguided Prohibition Amendment was just an earlier historical example of culture wars. As H. L. Mencken once wrote (possibly paraphrasing): "In America, there's always someone who can't sleep at night, worrying that someone else is enjoying themselves".

I am surprised to find people who consider themselves to be "kinky" who support culture warrior social conservatives - don't they realize they're a target simply because they're "kinky"? It's not such a big leap for a culture warrior to go from criminalizing abortion to criminalizing all forms of birth control to criminalizing consensual BDSM.

Myself Mike I think the Carl Rove philosophy is popular among Republican campaign managers. I also think they are holding back the Republican party that could sweep congress and the Presidency if they had their finger on the pulse of conservatives and independents in America.

If they would give up the fanatical right and embraced the middle America fiscally responsible conservatives and independents they could beat Obama and take the Senate.

To me the majority of people of all parties are wanting our government to live within their means…cooperate for the betterment of America… and get out of our world policeman role.

If the Republican candidates would endorse some of the above goals and forget the gay marriage, contraceptive, I’m more conservative then you crap they could win.

There is a school of thought that asserts that culture wars never go away. Even if the dispute over one issue is settled, the war re-erupts over another issue ..... and so on. This stream of thought asserts that it is through this process - of a culture's values and norms being continually contested and changed, that culture reproduces itself, remains relevant and progresses.

In other words, according to this perspective, culture wars are a way in which culture evolves and grows. The real problems begin if and when culture wars disappear for good.
