All this, "You can't have birth control pills" bullshit is predicated on the misguided belief that what happens in the exam room is subject to discussion by anyone but the doctor and patient.

This is, of course, incorrect, and we need to question the motives of those who would vouyeristically insert themselves into the exam room to satisfy their own prurient interests.

I have to play devil's advocate here. Doctor's are held accountable for the narcotics they give, for the antibiotics they give... for any medication they prescribe. The FDA can and does decide what can be prescribed. I, in no way, agree with the idea that a woman cannot have access to birth control. The others I mentioned were restricted due to safety. I do not agree with morality being the basis for restricting access.

I think you're jumping to a bit of a wild assumption. I don't think it's misguided to believe that "Big Brother" hasn't quite infiltrated doctors' exam rooms, yet. I think the idea is paranoiac.

The very idea of erosion of doctor patient confidentiality is so out of likelihood because doctors won't allow it. It's why I don't get too up in arms when the Congress (or Senate) attaches an amendment to a planned parenthood bill that says that only clinics that don't counsel abortion can be funded. How do they know what a doctor discusses with their patient.

I think you can rest assured that this basic tenet of law isn't going anywhere in the near future.

Peace and comfort,

Michael

You're concerned about this now?

Obamacare already requires Doctors to turn your records over to the Federal & State governments, and we know how secure government data is

quote:

It's an extremely technical issue but Section 153.340 of a new HHS proposed rule dealing with Obamacare mandates that individual states (or the department) collect "raw claims data sets" from all insurers on all people with private coverage purchased either individually or through small employers, which includes that obtained from the new state exchanges the law requires be created. [See a collection of political cartoons on healthcare.]

HHS says these databases need to be developed to implement what healthcare policy experts call "risk adjustment methodologies," supposedly insuring that risk is fairly distributed across the insurance pool. And, starting in 2017 states may permit large employers to purchase coverage through exchanges in addition to small employers and individuals. However, there are already concerns that the information collected may somehow end up in some kind of national, centralized database that will include private information about virtually all insured Americans.

Just another attempt of faux outrage by the Hippy... Nothing to see here, move along.

Fargle, no, no, no, that's the Dems who want to do that because they're just,....well you know,.....mean spirited.
Oh, and they can be very disingenuous many times too!

FDA =/= Employer. Unless you're employed by the FDA...

I realize that fargle. My point was that people interfer with the Doctor/patient relationship all the time. The difference is one is based upon safety and health issues... and the other is based upon religious intent, regardless of health or safety of the patient.

The OP KNOWS very precisely to what degree big brother is ALREADY in the exam room. Fargle ... how about you clue some of these folks into just how knowledgeable big brother IS about their 'private' dealings with their physician.
Daddy up there seems to a have a pretty light understanding as to what makes it into his permanent record.

We very rarely have EMPLOYERS getting involved. HIPPA comes to mind.

Employers often get involved via insurance companies. What they will pay for, what they wont. A Doctor can decide a course of treatment is best for his patient, but if the insurance company states that its not covered under the employees plan, that course will be changed.

Well, the federal regulators say it's covered under all plans, so that's the end of this chain of inquiry.
