To Aswad- How was I rude? I apologized and am ready to move on. I don't get why people keep bashing me constantly. I apologize and will certainly NEVER post anything here ever again. [:o]

I get the rude thing. Im sorry you dont like being told that what you posted was a lie. However, since post 5 you have been complaining abotu everyone being rude to you. Whats funny is that you are complaining that they are being rude to you in the very same way.

You gave wrong information.

You were corrected and shown the correct information.

Then you complain because people showed you the correct information and demanded to know why people were jumping on you.

Jeezus why is everyone on this board so rude and ready to pass judgement?? I was just passing on info that was posted by a friend on Facebook. There's nothing in the information that's harmful to anyone and could be very valid events. Jaded much?

You got back what you dished out. Your information was incorrect, yet you tried to hold on to your premise that it could be right.

Misinformation is harmful, no matter who dishes it out. That is the point Aswad was making to you. Your rudeness from post 5 is glaring. That is how you were rude.

If you dont like being corrected, take time to verify what you are posting. People here arent like your friends or family, they dont have to be nice... and most wont be.

yes Tazzygirl, i get that loud and clear. Understood and my apology was sincere, both of them.

While it appears that the baby seat story was a hoax, it's not devoid of good advice. And while the specific story about "Lauren" or "Lisa" turned out to be false, even Snopes comments:
"Whether this particular tale is true or not, women driving alone have been sexually assaulted by rapists pretending to be patrolmen (in in certain rare cases by actual police officers), so the advice it gives about not pulling over in deserted areas when signaled to do so by unmarked police vehicles is well worth heeding. Turn on your flashers, slow down, and keep driving until you get to a well-lit area where there are other people about..."
A black BMW flashing red and blue lights suddenly filled Alexandria Armeley’s rearview mirror one evening last month. At a stoplight, the BMW’s driver pulled up next to her, waved a gold badge and told her “I’m a cop.” But Ms. Armeley was suspicious. Before she pulled over, she called her stepfather, Alex Hernandez, a police detective in Biscayne Park, Fla., who warned her that the man was probably not a police officer. Speed away, he told her. A terrified Ms. Armeley took off and was chased by the BMW for several miles through southern Miami-Dade County. Detective Hernandez had jumped in his car to help and eventually caught up to them. So the real officer arrested the fake officer... [who] is facing several charges in the case ~New York Times

Police Officer Impersonation is Common Crime

In my opinion, you intended to be helpful, the people who checked the stories intended to be helpful, and the rest is bullshit.

In most jurisdictions a woman does not have to pull over until she gets to a well lit place with people around, regardless of who is trying to pull her over. She does need to slow down, she should put on her flashers... but she should also keep going. I would risk judge and jail before I stopped on a dark or quiet road, even for a marked car.

MrBukani -> RE: Sharing this info-For your safety and your loved ones (2/15/2012 4:34:21 AM)

Its a common fact criminals use new tactics and the law has to react to it. A law just passed a year ago in Holland, that truckdrivers are allowed not to stop for police. They have to call 112 and check with the police if it's a real policecar.
After some robbery incidents this is a new law. Only Great Brittain in Europe already had such a law.
It's worth to think about these things.
For people being rude on forums, ah well, that's life. Who cares?

Hey, sorry.  I have a short fuse for this sort of thing.  I'm an engineer by profession, and I have been eviscerated at work in the past for citing a fact from a source that nobody had heard of, with no backup or thinking whether the fact made sense or not.  It's in my DNA now.

So, GlGFU, you made a mistake here and got smacked for it.  With that out of the way, welcome to collarme.  [sm=hello.gif]

Within the U.S., dialing 911 remains the most direct and reliable way of contacting emergency services regardless of what kind of phone you use. Don't dial 112, unless you want to play Russian Roulette with your life.

I've had to call 911 three times. Each time I got "please hold" and then shunted into neverland for five to ten minutes.

If nothing else, it taught me not to bother with 911 if there was a time-sensitive emergency...

DesFIP -> RE: Sharing this info-For your safety and your loved ones (2/15/2012 5:48:39 AM)

Call your Attorney General's office and complain about the 911 service. Call the newspapers and tv stations and demand the state upgrades the service.

In NY State 911 was upgraded several years ago and such a thing never happens. In fact, when I called about five years ago to complain that my neighbor had set the woods on fire, there was immediate response with engines from my small town as well as those of towns around us within minutes.

Here's something else to watch out for if you're male. In large parking lots like Walmart and Home Depot, you may return to your car to find a couple of scantily clad girls washing your windshield. If you offer them a tip just to be nice rather than make an issue of it, they will tell you that they would really rather have a lift across to the MacDonald's or BurgerKing.

If you agree, once they're in the car one of the girls will strip and start crawling all over you. The scam is to steal your wallet. I know, because this happened to me on February 3rd and 4th, again on the 10th, and twice on the 11th. Be prepared. You can purchase cheap wallets for a few dollars at most discount stores.

That has actually happened to me before.
Here in Omaha, though, the big problem is with the cops who answer (or don't answer). I called because I saw a guy breaking into a car at the dog park and was told "the police don't answer these types of calls."

Crime in progress, with witnesses who could identify him, and you don't answer those calls? Really? REALLY?!

Yeah, as others said: welcome to CollarMe.

Please don't get me wrong here. I'm not trying to slap you silly. I'm pointing out that when we're unlucky enough to pass on the wrong piece of (mis)information to the wrong person at the wrong time, life slaps us much, much harder, and it keeps stinging for a very long time. I would much rather you be upset with me than finding yourself in a situation where this avoidable thing causes a problem for you and/or others.

I'm also usually not quite so grumpy with recent signups, so don't be discouraged. [:D]

Wow. That kind of legislation would be pretty cool. Around these parts, if someone claims to be police, they essentially own your ass by (legal) definition, regardless of circumstances, including whether they are behaving illegally, etc.; everyone is drilled to obey anyone claiming to be police, in every way. This has led to several cases of police raping women (it's more common than people pretending to be police doing so, and about as common as other assaultive rapes).

Those powers (and effective immunity to prosecution) will be extended substantially in response to 7/22.

As for calling the cops and being told they won't do squat, that's the usual response here. You can even bring the culprit to the police in citizen's arrest, with security tape footage, and the person will be out quicker than you yourself will be (since you have to fill out the paperwork, at which point it is stamped with "dismissed" and filed). All of vice, homicide and organized crime has been pulled for asscover in connection with the 7/22 investigations (mostly investigating how the media found out that the police lied through their teeth to cover their asses and that sort of thing; investigating the case itself is of little to no interest), so now there's occasionally even cartel-style killings in areas where there used to be no violent crime.

It's a recent development, and not one I like, since owning a firearm legally entails giving up your civil rights (e.g. it's an automatic forfeiture of the protection against illegal search and seizure, and various other rights, plus counts against you in any criminal case). Citizens banding together to do the job they ignore is about the only way to get them to really crack down. On the citizens, that is, not the problem that prompted them to band together in the first place.

A lot of people I know have paid organized crime for protection this last year.

Health,
al-Aswad.

soul2share -> RE: Sharing this info-For your safety and your loved ones (2/15/2012 11:41:19 AM)

I read this with some interest, as the same identical e-mail was sitting in my box at the time. Maybe it's because of the shit I've seen and heard, but when I see things like this, I immediately write it off as BS. That's not to say that there isn't any truth in the intent of the e-mail, but it's the way it's presented to look all official and stuff.

If you doubt that you're being pulled over by a legitimate officer, and it does happen to be in a dark and scary place, for God's sake, DON'T STOP! Use your damn common sense. turn on your flashers, and continue on until you reach someplace well lit and populated. Trust me, if he's a real officer, you'll be surrounded in minutes with other officers responding to the possible pursuit....even tho it's not called that anymore, that's another story. If after being followed for a few minutes, this doesn't occur, then take off. Call 911 and tell them where you are, and ask them if they have anyone there. Most departments anymore have GPS units on their squad cars, and the dispatcher can always give a general broadcast asking if anyone's attempting to stop you. The only downfall here is that you'll get someone who won't want to be bothered with this, but all calls are recorded, so describe what's happening, and tell them you are not stopping until you reach a lit area and that you fear for your safety. Trust me, if they attempt to arrest you for not stopping, then at least you'll have the recording in court. As long as you're not a jerk when you do stop and are approached, then most officers should accept your explanation.

As for the rest of the stuff, the parking lot incidents and what have you, again, USE YOUR DAMN COMMON SENSE! And here's another tip for you....don't put your house keys and car keys on the same key ring. If your approached in the lot for your car, give them just the car keys.....think about it....you have all sorts of stuff in your car with your address on it. Give 'em your house keys and there ya go......They may find out where you live, but there's no sense in making it easy for them to get inside, right? I used to have a Club for my car...I kept the car key on one ring, the club and house keys on another. I did this when I lived in an area where women were being accosted in parking lots for their cars. The thieves never tried for the purses, just wanted their car keys.....you may get into my car, but with the club, they weren't going very far. Auto theft is a aproperty crime, purse snatching is considered a violent crime...less jail time if caught...go figure.
