The first genre I embraced growing up was heavymetal, but I've never liked the newer bands, not even when metal made a mainstream comeback a few years ago.

My favorites are Iron Maiden, Judas Priest, DIO, Megadeth, Iced Earth, and Queensryche.

Yes. Particularly love thrash, so kind of had a metal-gasm when I first got there.

Sill trying to figure how to love certain bands & songs despite them having memories attached to them.

Hah-I was well on the way to being an early metalhead (Defined at the time as Motorhead, Sabbath, RJD, Deep Purple, Maiden, Priest, BOC etc...and crazy enough now, Zeppelin was also seen as metal, and not just metal, but THE metal band, which doesn't fit their music at all) when I got hit by the Grateful Dead on my way to a Megadeth concert and things were never quite the same.

But traces of metal lingered. To this day, Alice in Chains "Dirt" might be my favorite release ever.

Meanwhile, sheesh-where's Greedy?
I woulda pegged her as an old skool metalgal all the way.

Edited to add some early bitching ass Sabbath.
In hindsight, it's kinda crazy how close these guys were to mixing aspects of punk, speed and standard metal way fucking back.

I've always thought British Steel was way overrated. Hell Bent For Leather was much better, in my opinion.

seeing megadeath mentioned really is bitter sweet for me. the man i loved was into them and i remember him being mortified when my mum said she liked one of their songs. he was the only guy she actualy liked when i was younger. sadly he passed away, 10 years ago next month, at the age of 32. strangely, but organically he has come up in conversation alot this last week or so.

i'm not sure what they fall under, but today i have blasted myself in the car with seven dust. i find heavy music relaxing and spirit lifting.

Gotta love pantera and Metallica. I like the new stuff too. Not much into hair bands and screaming stuff. I guess I enjoy melodic and rough and heavy :)

lostinmyownmind -> RE: Any metal fans? (2/15/2012 3:27:57 PM)

Alice In Chains does a beautiful instrumental, Whale and Wasp. I'm particularly fond of them and Queensryche. Can't stand the stand on the amp and scream type bands, that's just noise to me.

I prefer Unleashed in the East-the live versions of exciter and The Ripper smoke

For the best version of Diamonds & Rust, check out their '98 Live Meltdown album. Halford can't touch Tim Owens on that one.

Overall I'd say my favorite Priest album of any era would have to be Defenders of the Faith.

Iron Maiden. Yes.
Black Sabbath. Yes.
Judas Priest. Yes.

Man. I need my CDs.

The early Metallica, Alice in Chains, yes. And Tool. We must have Tool!

Alice in Chains! Yes!

Tool -- is Tool metal? I kinda don't feel like they're metal. They're just Tool. "just" Tool, which is like... more awesome than a bajillion suns collapsing in on themselves.

Huuuuuge fan of aluminum and stainless steel.

More 1970’s stuff…

Deep Purple - Speed King: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=w4I--kl9wbY – finest album intro ever I reckon. IMHO the later histrionic metal singers owe more to Ian Gillan than Plant or Ozzy.

Lou Reed - Heroin: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=G7Ch4O7wmuY – excellent metal version.

Thin Lizzy – Waiting for an alibi http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rJoXgxx9UwE – searing twin lead guitar thanks (in part) to Gary Moore.

Motörhead - Louie Louie: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3CMgkJ1b1aY – “oi oi oi oi”

Tool is more metal than Rammstien, Rammstien is Techno, not metal[;)]
