Well, it's clear that the Oklahoma Legislature thinks that they OWN all the women in the state, and that they OWN their eggs, and can tell them what to do with them.

I thought Lincoln freed all the slaves, but it looks like the Republicans have just been biding their time.

SoftBonds -> RE: Nothing says small government like a vaginal probe! (2/16/2012 8:27:16 PM)

Roe V Wade gets overturned, the rich women will go back to flying to Sweden for the procedure, the poor will use coat hangers. That's what happened before Roe V Wade.
If your life is such that you feel you need an abortion, a little thing like a law won't stop you. "Oh, I can't afford food, I have to prostitute myself for rent money, but abortion is illegal so I guess I will have the kid." Yeah right.
In Mexico a lot of women die of abortions. Sometimes they will be hemorrhaging in a hospital but the doctors can't repair the damage unless the woman tells the cops who performed the procedure...
That said, maybe killing the women who have sex outside of marriage is the idea for these folks?

That is just pure unadulterated BULLSHIT!!!!

I own all the eggs women produce in Oklahoma, and I have since I bribed a Legislator and had inserted a simple little subsection into a little legislative piece I paid about 30 grand for in 2003.

How soon before we see an amended bill request from the GOP's Trial lawyers Association asking that "Hospital Johnnies" be defined as "provocative dress"?

Yeah, and then he fertilizes them and gives them back to the women...
You did know rabbits were prolific, right?

Just to be totally clear here. Virginia's new law provides that women seeking an abortion in Virginia will be forcibly penetrated for no medical reason.

In any other State of the Union, we call that "Rape".

quote:

Englin offered an amendment to require the pregnant woman’s consent prior to subjecting her to a vaginal penetration ultrasound, but House Republicans rejected the amendment by a vote of 64 to 34.

There you go folks. The Republicans are now officially the PRO-RAPE PARTY.

Nice going, guys!

Yep... I wrote about this bullshit all over my FB page this week. I'm from the Commonwealth of Virginia and I am DISGUSTED beyond belief at the laws that were enacted this week in my state.

Non-consensual inanimate object penetration constitutes rape in the Code of Virginia. If the woman doesn't consent, she can't get the abortion. So, it means the state is dictating to the doctors WHAT procedures they must perform. So... my senators and representatives can tell a doctor what to do to a woman??? Are they on the OB/GYN Board? Hell no.

What a giant clusterfuck. And to any woman who thinks that a trans-vag ultrasound/probe is "no big deal" under this type of duress, in this situation, please go to the end of that very short line ---->

It's the time travel door to the fucking dark ages. Be my guest too get out of 2012, I'd rather not see you in my world.

tweakabelle -> RE: Nothing says small government like a vaginal probe! (2/17/2012 11:19:10 PM)

Institutionalised systematic rape. Pure and simple. Unashamedly ideologically-driven. The looney Right has sunk to a new low.

I owe a huge debt of gratitude to whomever is responsible for ensuring there is an ocean, and the best part of a continent between the thugs who enacted this legislation and my body. If I lived in Virginia, I would be moving to anywhere-but-Virginia asap.

I thought the USA was supposed to be the "land of the free", not the land of punishment free rape.

They cant show you pretty pictures with a speculum

No, no they can't.

My point was that women are already supposed to be having a pelvic and pap smear every year as part of their "Well Woman Check-up." I have never liked that term.[8|] But if you want contraception, you have to have your check-up. A pelvic and pap smear sucks more than a transducer for an ultra-sound.

Fargle is getting all incensed over vaginal probes, but they happen all the time to women. Vaginal sono's happen for lots of reasons.

And yes, the sono machines are improving and they do some really cool pictures anymore.

(And I always thought that for safety and health reasons you should have an ultrasound before and after an abortion.)

In some states you MUST have an ultrasound prior to an abortion, but it has nothing to do with the abortion, and is NOT a recommended medical procedure. It is, simply put, a way to put pressure on you to change your mind, by...supposedly...showing you the "baby person" growing inside you. It's purely an attempt to force certain (religious) beliefs upon others. Now, since a regular ultrasound doesn't usually get a picture of "anything" that early, Virginia has decided to make it more invasive. So, not only are the religious nuts telling you what you can do with your own body, they're also now telling doctors to perform un-needed medical procedures. This is not remotely about medicine.

Are we sure the external ultrasound is truly less useful for depicting the uterus? I normally get an external for my fibroids. The last time the tech and supervisor weren't happy with the external's results so they went with the internal additionally, but all the previous times it was external.

kalikshama -> RE: Nothing says small government like a vaginal probe! (2/18/2012 6:55:50 AM)

So I've known about these fibroids for at least 13 years, and every single ultrasound has shown no problems with my endometrium, yet in order for my VA GYN to give me a prescription for Prometrium, I needed to have a uterine biopsy to rule out endometrial cancer. This pissed me off, because when I had civilian health insurance, there was no such requirement. But because I've been trying to get the Prometrium from the VA for 3 years, I consented, even though I felt coerced.

Normally, I have no problem with GYN procedures, and even get off on them a bit, but I was in a foul mood after this coerced invasive uterine biopsy, and ended up being sick for a week.

Dr. Christiane Northrup is good on the patriarchal medical model and I highly recommend the first chapter of "Women's Bodies, Women's Wisdom" - The Patriarchal Myth: The Origin of the Mind/Body/Emotion Split. I've always been able to get her books from the library, and own my favorite.

I think they should insert a scope up the asses of the politicians so that they can see exactly how full of shit they really are, to put pressure on them to change their minds about the laws they wish to enact.
