Don't you think the repubs, as part of their hand picked witnesses, should have had the brains to toss in a few women religious leaders?

True enough. Point taken. But there's something askew with the Dem's radar too, or they would have proposed a female religious leader. Making a stink over Issa declining to hear testimony from some college student seems kinda... huh?

K.

The woman in question is a student at a Catholic university and therefore would be adversely affected by the reversal of the long standing rules.

Gee, yeah, I see your point. Their decision on the question of religious liberty is going to affect people.

Well fuck, then, somebody needs to tell them.

mnottertail -> RE: Conservatives seem to be socially tone deaf (2/16/2012 3:56:40 PM)

You can't...supposedly they are defending that separation of church and state proscribed by our venerable constitution by going out of their way to advance one loudmouthed pedophilic hagiohiearchy over other faiths to separate church and church and state by violating what is proscribed in the constitution, sorta....uhhh, dealie, thingie......defending....or.............never mind.......

Iamsemisweet -> RE: Conservatives seem to be socially tone deaf (2/16/2012 4:05:50 PM)

These so called "hearings" by committees are little more than dog and pony shows.  The public is not allowed to freely testify, nor were the Dems entitled to have any particular person testify (obviously).  Not really sure why a person who would be affected by what is euphemistically being called a "religious rights" issue would not have standing to testify, but that is up to the committee.  Everything has to go through the committee, which handpicks the witnesses.  In short, the Dems weren't in charge of the guest list.  And the Repubs look pretty fucking stupid, in my opinion.

Yes, Conservatives must be tone deaf on social issues because ONLY the Democrat Party and their ilk know whats best for America. What close minded, intolerant, and idiotic thing to say. Doubly stupid as you force your will upon the American people, most of who, regardless of what the media tells you, simply do not want it. There was no birth control shortage, people who want birth control can get birth control. There is no issue here, other than the one Democrats dreamed up in a fantasy of tyranny as they force their will upon the people. It would not be so bad, except that left wing policy puts people out of work.
Enjoy.

Montana32DD,

You may have your knockers all over CM's forums, but it always brings a smile to my face to read your posts. [:)]

Ed. to add: Sorry, that should have been 'Montana32DDD'.

Well, 32DDD, I can't speak for most American people, like you apparently can, but I did just want to say "nice tits". I think most American people would agree with me

I agree with you on WAY MORE than just the tits... but since you brought em up, I gotta ask... what's your expert opinion? Real or assisted?

Iamsemisweet -> RE: Conservatives seem to be socially tone deaf (2/16/2012 4:38:13 PM)

Well, always happy to give someone a "little wood".

DaddySatyr -> RE: Conservatives seem to be socially tone deaf (2/16/2012 5:22:51 PM)

"To get/cut wood" = lignor/lignare

"To construct of wood" = materio/materare

I hope that helps.

Peace and comfort,

Michael

A long standing rule about rights is that your rights end at my nose or in this case old white men's rights end well before a woman's ovaries.

Actually, they forced their will upon INSURANCE COMPANIES.

And since corporations are ARTIFICIAL LEGAL ENTITIES CREATED BY THE STATE, they'll shut the fuck up and do as they're told. And if they don't like the regulation, they are free to liquidate their assets and engage in any other business they choose.

That's called FREEDOM.

The President has asserted a right to command private companies to give out entitlements. No co-pay, no increase in premiums, just something for free.

Women can demand the pill for free. I have not heard if condom companies will be commanded to provide condoms for free to men demanding them.

Well, here's condom companies JUST GIVING THEM AWAY. And it took all of ONE SECOND to find them on google. AND google reports About 4,410,000 results. So... Maybe you just never looked?

http://www.mysavings.com/free-condoms-condom-samples.asp

That aside. Like I said. It's regulation. Just like the auto companies need to 'give away for free' brake lights of the DOT APPROVED color red. Do you think an auto manufactures 'freedom' is impinged because they need to make the tailights of the cars they sell RED?

The *reality* is that *EVERY* industry is regulated. Period. And if you don't like the regulation, go into a different business where you might be happier.

erieangel -> RE: Conservatives seem to be socially tone deaf (2/16/2012 6:42:55 PM)

This issue is a fake one really, when you think about it. Many, if not most, religious employers already carry insurance for their employers that includes contraceptive coverage. And Obama's mandate that all insurance offer contraceptive coverage without a co-payment had already excluded The Church, meaning that the woman who cleans the Diocesan offices or the rectory doesn't have to be offered contraceptive coverage but the employees at the Catholic hospital do--this because many of the employees of the hospital are not going to be Catholic while the cleaning ladies at the rectory or Diocesan offices most often are. But being offered the coverage does not mean the women have to accept the contraceptives.

And for the record, the insurance want this mandate. The stir up is just a group of right wing nuts who have found red herring on which to oppose the president. And that is all anything from the right has been about the past three years.

GrandPoobah -> RE: Conservatives seem to be socially tone deaf (2/16/2012 6:49:11 PM)

The problem, assuming there really is one, is that the churches are proposing doing exactly the same thing.

The President says everyone should have access to birth control, and proposed that employer provided health insurance should include that, even if it costs more. The "church" responded by saying..."since we don't believe in it, you're sticking the State into religion, which is against the Constitution.

The churches, on the other hand, are telling their employees (and students) that they cannot have birth control because the church doesn't believe in it, even if the employee or student does. So...the church is attempting to mandate religious beliefs to an employee or student, something else the Constitution specifically says you can't do.

So...if it's "wrong" for the State (President) to mandate beliefs, it's equally wrong for the church to mandate beliefs. Whoops. I guess the church missed that day in civics class.

Except you can CHOOSE not to work, or worship at the said church, you don't get that choice with Obama's mandate.

erieangel -> RE: Conservatives seem to be socially tone deaf (2/16/2012 7:01:09 PM)

I went to a Catholic university and we women got our BC at the student health center, just like many young women at Catholic universities had done for years. And my local diocese actually provides BC coverage for their female employees. This is the USCCB which is nothing more than a religious right wing group that is opposing the mandate, even as they opposed the ACA even though the Pope has argued vehemently for universal health coverage for everybody.

Like I said, this issue is nothing more an issue devised by the right wing to oppose something Obama has done. The right wing wouldn't be saying against it (not even the USCCB) if a republican president had proposed it.
