I like the word succubus better.

Of course you do.  [:D]

areallivehuman -> RE: Minions (2/17/2012 2:16:34 PM)

What is the difference between a minion and a henchman? Or henchwoman?

Is a henchman just a minion wannabe?

LaTigresse -> RE: Minions (2/17/2012 2:23:16 PM)

I think henchpersons, have to be paid.

Minions do not.

TheBlank -> RE: Minions (2/17/2012 2:25:08 PM)

Big difference! Henchmen are often just merceneries along for the ride of a particular campaign and quite the opposite of a minion. Henchmen will run away.. minions keep going and going like the Energizer Bunny!

I'd much rather face sword against henchmen than minions. Hoards and all that what not. [;)]

Interesting thread and concept.

I don't have much of an opinion on the word "minion" but it has a very...sinister feel to it? But also a comical feel in a way, because of how it is used in the media (think Despicable Me, Megamind, Dr. Evil from Austin Powers, etc.) I don't mind the word itself and it's been used by my Master in a joking context to refer to me.

To delve deeper into this "relentless in service" concept, in itself that merely sounds like (as happylittlepet said) "I will never quit." Which could be a destructive thing, if the "minion" is in the wrong hands (that of an irresponsible master.) The only other real problem with it I have is the connotation it seems to have like this:
quote:

ORIGINAL: LaTigresse
The minion appears to see the one they are devoted to in a rather unrealistic light, for whatever reason. And also view the world and those in it, through that person's filters. Almost a reverent following, a touch beyond individual reason. Minions tend to be rather easily influenced by certain types it seems.

It that light, I don't think I want any minions. I rather like being surrounded by independently thinking intelligent people that challenge me on my forays into bullshit.
"Minion" almost seems to have that "mindless" aspect to it, which is definitely something I don't like.

JeffBC -> RE: Minions (2/17/2012 10:50:39 PM)

I used to call my employees at work "my minions to do my evil bidding". I also numbered them at one point... Minion 1, Minion 2, etc. :) I hadn't thought about calling Carol my minion but now that you bring it up, it's got some appeal.

My ex minions from my ex job miss me dreadfully and call their new overlord "he who must not be named." [:D]

Ja, but should Jeff call Carol his ex-minion after your pattern, she could get the wrong idea, you see......

xssve -> RE: Minions (2/18/2012 7:32:58 AM)

Yes, henchmen are mercenaries, minions are Myrmidons with an added dash of servility.

ResidentSadist -> RE: Minions (2/18/2012 12:15:03 PM)

Minions, sidekicks, slaves, subordinates all hold similar meanings in my vocabulary.  Although minions has the most demonic flavor of them all.

SoftBonds -> RE: Minions (2/18/2012 12:31:32 PM)

I loved Despicable me, awesome movie for a father of daughters!
Anyway, seeking minions for my evil plot to clone the models from the sports illustrated swimsuit edition and fill the world with millions more beautiful women!!!
Mwah hah hah haha!!!!

Evil laughter and plans to take over the world with death rays, are a well known risk of Dominating.
