SoftBonds -> Age in the Collarme main site (2/18/2012 9:09:45 AM)

OK, so I see this girl that is cute and her interests match mine, but she is listed as 19. Probably a bit young for me...
Then I notice that she has been posting since 2008.
So either she joined collarme when she was 16, or her age is listed incorrectly.
Does collarme not update ages? I can see that it would be a lot of coding to do so, so if not I understand, but I want to be sure here.
Sorry if this thread is in the wrong forum.

frazzle -> RE: Age in the Collarme main site (2/18/2012 9:11:52 AM)

You have to physically change your age or i am 40 !!!

angelikaJ -> RE: Age in the Collarme main site (2/18/2012 9:12:26 AM)

CM does not update ages.

That does not mean that she was definitely of age when she made her profile but likely she just hasn't updated.

mnottertail -> RE: Age in the Collarme main site (2/18/2012 9:12:33 AM)

Nope it doesnt automatically update ages, not sure thats alot of coding but.....well, it doesnt.

Kana -> RE: Age in the Collarme main site (2/18/2012 9:24:12 AM)

To paraphrase Matthew McConnaughey's greatest line, "That's the best thing bout CollarMe. They keep getting older and I stay the same age"

Hey, it's a FREE site. You can't expect them to drop a boatload of cash on a team of coders just to make users' age increment.

mnottertail -> RE: Age in the Collarme main site (2/18/2012 9:36:05 AM)

And some of us who are over 99 are happy that we can dispense with the 100s it is hard enough to remember to breathe, let alone update that thing..........

*snerk*

you need a nubile young woman, Ron, for chest compressions (not saying WHOSE chest needs compressing...)

DaddySatyr -> RE: Age in the Collarme main site (2/18/2012 11:06:53 AM)

Actually, I'm not fluent in Cascading Style Sheets (CSS) but I believe that making the ages auto-update would not take much doing because the idea behind CSS is that you make one "boiler plate template" and refer all of the new profile pages to that template.

However, like Ron pointed out; some people like to joke around about their ages and that code would make that kind of kidding around impossible (I think).

It would be based upon a perpetual calendar (they've been around forever) and your birthdate (which has been around as long as you have).

Seriously, I think I used to know how to do it but in HTML; not using a CSS (which leaves me, scratching my head).

Peace and comfort,

Michael

Unless the latest incarnation of HTML and CSS have something new in them to allow that, I doubt it. You sure couldn't do it up to HTML4 and the version of CSS that was current then. Or at least, not just using HTML and/or CSS.

If the page (as received from the server) included their birthdate, Javascript could convert that to an age and display the age instead of the birthdate (or both). But even if it didn't display the birthdate, it would still be visible to anyone who clicked "View Source." Some people might not like that. The better alternative would be to generate the HTML on demand with a server-side script. But, of course, the user would have to be willing to reveal their birthdate to CM, which not everyone might want to do.

And, of course, they could still be lying (or "role-playing," as folks who do that, and the overly-kind demented, are wont to call it), so what would you really be gaining?

K.

I joined CM in 1967...I've changed my age several times.

I'm now 19.

You have got to update your age yourself.

The coding likely is quite simple to do. However, I see no need to do it automatically. Wrong ages also have a plus side: lots of people do not want to be spied upon and therefore ages that may not be quite right make them more anonymous than correct ages.

myrgth -> RE: Age in the Collarme main site (2/19/2012 8:28:17 AM)

No, it doesn't update ages.

Just add in the amount of years it has been from their join date to the age they have listed.  That is usually what I do.

At first I thought people were just fudging their age, which I don't doubt some do, but then realized that my age didn't change after my birthday.  Light bulb moment.

Well, that kind of stuff would be done with a server-side language (ASP, based on the site's URLs), not using CSS or HTML.

But no, it's not hard to do. All they'd have to do is pull your date of birth (which IIRC I had to provide when I signed up?) from the database entry for your profile, and then use a date function to calculate the difference between then and now. I don't know ASP, but in PHP that function's a pretty basic thing to do.

LizDeluxe -> RE: Age in the Collarme main site (2/20/2012 5:53:49 AM)

I think the profiles on bondage.com update the age automatically.

Kaliko -> RE: Age in the Collarme main site (2/20/2012 11:28:36 AM)

There are plenty of free sites that update ages automatically. No big deal. It gives people one more easy way to lie. Fabulous.

She's actually 107, no teeth (could be good....was for me). I met her once in Detroit....a little wrinkly but.....they have those little tube hotels ($27.75 for 2 hours), very low lights and frankly....it was 87 minutes to my next flight. I was in a hurry.

I actually liked her, but she used Efferdent....and I prefer Polygrip....so, we didn't exchanged numbers.

ModTwentyOne -> RE: Age in the Collarme main site (2/21/2012 3:09:08 PM)

The other side asks for your age, not your date of birth, in your profile information. Therefore, there is no birthdate to automatically increment.
