Status: offline 		Greetings to all, I was hoping someone here may know about this. Has anyone used/know about the stuff they sell at the drugstore to put on bruises? Have you ever tried it? Did it work? Did it lessen the times the marks showed? I am interested, but looking at it seems like it might be snake oil. Thanks for any help!

Status: offline 		Many people swear by arnica cream.  It is supposed to help bruises heal.  I've never used it so can't say how well it works.  Cold compresses shortly after getting the bruise followed by warm compresses 24 hours later will also help healing.

Status: offline 		Arnica gel. I buy it at my local health food store as I have not seen it in a chain drugstore. It is very, very effective. If you put it on immediately after play on any spot that you think might develop a bruise, you will minimize the appearance of bruises, and the bruises will fade much, much quickly, and with far less irritation/discomfort/pain. If you forget to put it on right after, just start putting it on afterwards anywhere that you see bruises. I don't bruise that much or bruise that easily, but Arnica gel really worked the few times I've needed to use it. I've used it not just for play bruises, but the stupid "I bumped my leg into the coffee table" type bruises, too

Status: offline 		I've used arnica tablets. I had done some damage to my foot water skiing when the ski came off and hit my foot. The tablets worked wonders for the bruising.

Status: offline 		Does anybody who uses that cream have sensitive skin? I would like to try that cream but I break out from different things like soap shaving etc I don't want to use it then have a rash along with bruises. And yes I know it could affect me different then others with skin problems.

What I use is a gel, not a cream, and it has never caused me any issues, but skin sensitivity is very personal. So, the only way to find out is to do a skin patch test on your skin and see how your skin reacts to it. I'm not sure how else you can find out. But search for the gel in your health food store. It has fewer ingredients, and I think would be less likely to cause you irritation than a cream.

I don't know about the creme you're talking about, but I can swear by bruise plaster. Available at any Asian grocery or martial arts store.

Bruises tend to disappear after a couple of days.

Which is about the time it would take them to go if I didn't use anything, but I like witch hazel nevertheless.

I have Multiple Chemical Sensitivities so avoid personal care products with artificial fragrance and other crap. Arnica gel has never bothered me.

Tiger Balm is an anti-irritant and excellent for things like headaches or muscular pain. (I use it for headaches). I'm not sure it works on bruises, and as an anti-irritant I'm not sure it would have the soothing properties of some of the other products mentioned in this thread. I would be very cautious of using Tiger Balm on a bruise given its properties. It creates a kind of mild burning sensation where it is applied, and for me, that's not what I would want on a bruised area of skin.

Don't laugh but have you tried to rub the bruises with the back of a spoon? Personally, I wouldn't try to get rid of bruises.. it's bad enough when they fade away on their own, but in a pinch, the back of a spoon can force the blood back and enable it to reabsorb into your system and lessen the appearance of bruises. I'm .. um.. frugal, yeah.. that's it, so try to look for low cost alternatives to things when I can. If the bruises are in a place you can't reach, you can either wear something over them or try one of the other products which have already been suggested.

Ice packs for 20 minutes at a time for 48 hours; this keeps the bruise from getting worse: after that, heat packs for 20minutes at a time, carries the old blood away

Status: offline 		I have used arnica gel - it has not affected my skin in any way except for very severe bruises a small amount of heat/burning. I did an experiment to see if it really worked - I put the gel on twice a day every day until the bruise faded on one part of me and left another part to heal on its own. After about 8 days the part that was treated with the arnica was completely healed. The bruise that was not treated did not fully heal for another 20 days. So to recap: arnica healed in 8 days, no arnica healed in 28 days. Since then I use arnica every time I play - for me it is worth the effort and cost of finding it in the small town I live in. Hope that helps.
