New Jersey's Gov.,as expected vetoed a same sax marriage bill,Jersey is a liberal state....so Christie isn't doing himself any favors as far as re-election to the office he currently has.
So what is he positioning himself for,a spot as the #2 man this year or the top spot in 2016?
The calculation of whether or not being the VP candidate on a losing ticket will hinder him in 2016 will probably decide that question.
Seems like we shall all see whether America is ready for a large man in the Oval office real soon.

Nothing wrong with an overweight president, we have had a few before. Taft? Teddy Roosevelt? Heck, I think John Quincy Adams could have dropped a few pounds...

I can't see it hurting him. Palin took a weak candidate, McCain, and completely killed the ticket, and IMO she would have walked off with the 2012 GOP nomination had she run.

Um, mike, in no way did I endorse her. I simply stated that being part of a losing ticket is not the GOP kiss of death, and used her as a case in point.

She's an odd case to cite though, as she clearly has no intention of standing again. She's much happier preaching to the converted with no responsibility for any of the crap she comes out with than she would be in an elected office.

The absolutely amazing thing to me is that the candidates are so weak that someone who torpedoed the last ticket, has two years of experience as a state governor, and has no desire to run again, could take the nomination if she asked for it.

Christie? Nah. The problem is, he's a sissy. Instead of standing up and being a man, he's bent on trying to weasel around the issue, and preserve his chances to play in the Big Game later on.

Unfortunately, while the crazy religious fanatics may support him, to everyone else on the planet he comes off weak and unable to make any really tough calls. Add the whole 'undisciplined' thing with his morbid obesity? Put a fork in his political career, because it's done!

After all, the Republican Held NYS Legislature corrected the ambiguity in the Dom. Rel. Law without any huge issue. And he's lost all that money, as all the wealthy gays and lesbians go "Fuck You, Christie. Over the river in NYS, I'm 100% of a person, so we're moving to the city and we'll donate to pols there pay them our taxes...."

Governor Christie has been a decent manager of this state in his time in office. When he was elected, the over-all thought was: "it has taken years - maybe even decades - for us to get into this horrid position. He's not going to fix anything. His job is to get us moving in the right direction"

And, on the whole, he's done that. I do not agree with his opposition to gay marriage and I wrote and called to voice my concerns. Either the governor isn't listening, he doesn't care, or the people that bothered to contact him favored a veto of the bill.

His State of the State show included his plan to restore some services cut during the worst of the recession, a 10% income tax cut and a tightening of the belt in areas where the belt can (not necessarily; "should") be tightened.

Most residents would prefer a property tax cut but, as a renter, I'm a happy li'l' camper.

All-in-all, you can make fun of his weight but, I got to know Governor Christie before he was even running for Governor. He is a likable, funny, honest, intelligent and personable guy. Add to that the fact that he has made some marginal improvement in this state with an opposition state house, and a white house that doesn't share his vision and I think he makes an attractive candidate for the white house.

Peace and comfort,

Michael

Christie will not be a VP candidate. Who would pick him? Romney won't pick another east-coast Republican because they would be emphatically rejected in the heartland. Paul's VP choice will be Judge Napolitano and Romney, Santorum, and Gingrich will all seek out Marco Rubio. Rubio can help the GOP wrestle away a portion of the hispanic vote, and will also help them in the hotly contested state of Florida.

Rubio is the dream choice but I think he'll
probably pass figuring being on a losing ticket
as VP won't help his presidential ambitions.
It generally doesn't help a candidate from
either party. Rubio's a young man who isn't
a candidate for bypass surgery he can sit this
one out. Should sit this one out.
Christie despite his declarations that he is only
interested in being governor is obviously wetting
himself at the thought of being VP.
But why choose him? He does nothing for Romney.
Doesn't help with social conservatives at all.
If Santorum was the pick which I doubt he
couldn't choose Christie because it would make
him look like a hypocrite with social conservatives.
Also two east coasters on the ticket is not
going to fly.
There's enough tape of Christie mouthing off in
various venues to pierce his jolly fat guy image.
John Quincey Adams was a small man. Slight and
short in stature. His father was stout and became
stouter over the years. Chester A Aurther was a big
guy. He and Taft were the chubby presidents.

How's a fat little bastard like him do that? Bend over and grab a cheek in each hand, and like whistle work songs for the next 3 1/2 years?
