By Dean Koontz. It is not horror. It is not about dogs.
It is about a fry cook, who can see and speak to the dead.
The main character is one of the most interesting main characters I've ever seen written. He's right up there with Lisbeth Salander as an interesting, in depth study of the human psyche.

I've read the entire series and have been waiting impatiently (for years) for the next book to come out. I've read that one is due out in summer of 2012, and one in 2013.

I do agree with some others who commented on the game of thrones. I'm not sorry (at all) that I read this. I've shared it with others who have similarly fallen in love, but it's difficult to wait for so long for the next part of the story. It's like missing an old friend you can't communicate with. You can only read the old letters and hope you will be reunited again someday.

Has anyone else discovered this gem? If not, I highly recommend you at least read the first book, Odd Thomas. If you're not hooked after that one, you never will be. (but I highly suspect you will be) I also see a movie or series being made out of this. It's that good.

I'd send ya what I have, but I'm all shared out. (I don't have any more of this series in my collection) I do intend to re-own the entire series someday though. Apparently, right now, there are four (real...not graphic comic or other weird) books in the series, and there will be 7 all together.

I haven't read this series but I have a family
member who is a Koontz fanatic and he says
these are his favorite of all Koontz's books.
And he has read them all.
It does sound interesting, I like the I can see
dead people stuff. Interesting, considering how
popular Koontz is that more of his books
haven't been made into films.

Okay,Blushes,I like series...and since from what I'm reading here this one has been going on awhile(which means I can dive in and read a bunch of books in a row....lol) I will bite.

WinterApple, I keep expecting this series to become either a movie (or series of them) or (more likely) an HBO series. It would make a great show.

I have the entire Odd Thomas collection and yes, it only took one book to get hooked. :D

Yep, discovered Odd Thomas at work one day...someone left it in the book locker, I picked it up because I was bored and went out and bought the three books and the graphic novel the next day. Had them all read in two days. I was really disappointed in the ending of the first one, it was so sad. I should look into whether or not he's done anymore past the 3 novels and the one graphic novel.

I love series books too, but they are mostly for lighter reading. I love the Sookie books, have them all, including the one called "A touch of Dead"....it sort of fills in the holes in the novels. I must've read them each about 6 times now...in fact, I just finished the 4th one, and am reading the 8th one again. The other one I read is the Stephanie Plum books.....those are a total hoot! They just released the movie for the first one, "one for the money", haven't seen it yet, but I'll get to it. I turned my friends on at my last job to those and the Sookie novels. I also have all the ones for the House of Night Series, another tween set about vampires, but they are excellent reads too.

I also read James Patterson's Maximum Ride series, the ones about the genetically engineered kids w/wings. Again, found it in the book locker and got them all the next day. I think there are two I haven't read yet, but I'll get to them. And there are also the J.D Robb "In Death" books. I'd read several of them out of sequence, but started at the first one and am working my way thru them. All excellent reads.

Got the series but have not read the 4th book yet. It is beckoning me though. When I get a chance, I will start the series again (refresh my mind).

S2S, I used to read the Charlene Harris series years ago, but now that I watch the show, I find reading the books confuse me because the show does not always follow the "script".

I've read all the Stephanie Plum novels and love them. The movie looks pretty lame though.

ETA: This is the fourth ODD Thomas book.

I love Odd Thomas.

I also read the Stepanie Plum novels and the movie was lame. Katherine Heigl was horrible.

One of my other favorite series are the Stone Barrington novels.

I'm not sure about the movie for One for the Money......a friend who I turned onto the books saw it, she said they could've done a better job casting Ranger, she was thinking the Rock, and she said it was an okay way to spend an afternoon. I would've liked to see Betty White cast as Grandma Mazur.....she said Debbie Reynolds was missing the spark that is Grandma Mazur in the books. I would've never gone Katherine Heigl.....Stephanie has balls in the books!

Christina, I read the books before seeing True Blood. I really wish they'd stuck to the books better, the plot lines they have in TB are all messed up , and sort of screwy. And they've taken things from the characters in the book. I do both the series and the books, but it's the books that I compare to TB, not the other way around. Blowing Tara's head off in TB was not the way that the books go, and the plotline in the book actually impacted the following books as far as Sookie and Eric are concerned. And I like the character Eric in the books better. TB's Bill ain't all he's cracked up to be either. I haven't seen Season 3, saw part of Season 4. But hey, it's entertainment, right?

Also, Charlaine Harris' other books are good too......I picked them up at the library while waiting for the Sookie books to be released. Female protagonist, decent plots, nice light reading. If you like Sookie, check the others out.

I absolutely fell in love with the Odd Thomas series as soon as I picked up the first book. I'm sad that school is now taking away all my leisure reading time though, because I have a lot to get caught up on.

Re Charlene Harris, I love the Aurora Teagarten books.
I read all the Sookie ones and then rented the first True Blood season. But the show is so different, that I couldn't seem to watch it.

One for the Money looks like fun...I would have preferred an Italian for Joe Morelli and Betty White would have been a hoot as .

The Sookie books are my favs of Harris's series and I've just finished re-reading them. I have Deadlocked, due out in May, on hold. I'm reading the Aurora series now.

I'm also re-reading the Anita Blake series but am not enjoying her as much this time around.

I just finished Robin Hobb's City of Dragons. She tends to write in trilogies, but this series has a book or two left. Not my fav, but I enjoy the universe. Makes more sense when you start with the Mad Ship series.

I'm catching up on Orson Scott Card books and have Pathfinder to look forward to.

Betty White would have been the perfect grandma, although I did picture her as a bit more petite than that.
Joe Manganiello would have been "my" Ranger. Or Joe. (is that his name?) Either one, he is HOT!!

I did read all the books many times before True Blood came out. They didn't stay with the plot lines necessarily but the casting was incredible, and they've made the show even better than the books. The books were to me (like you) just a quick easy light read. The show...has depth. I'm not sure if I just missed this depth in the books, (I don't think so) or if someone was just so inspired by the books, they took the books and added something to them, and made this amazing show...Idk...

Eh, I never liked Bill, either in the books or the show. I've always had the hots for Eric, (even though I'm generally not into blondes) both in the books and the show. And then there's Alcide...***YUM***!!!
