I totally agree with this and finally decided to not even date anyone who did not live within 1/2 hour drive from my house.

Profiles, pictures, descriptions, chat, email etc are never the same as meeting someone in the flesh.

Date someone nearby with whom you don't have to make a "big plan" just to get together.

I wish I lived in an are with more of a kink community. I live in the middle of nowhere in upstate ny. It's mostly farm land. Syracuse is about an hour away from me but there are still not a whole lot , at least it seems that way. So I have no way of really getting to meet someone out anywhere unless it ends up being a long plan, with a long drive. Idk, I wish I could move closer to NYC lol I'm about 4 to 4.5 hours away from there at best. So most people I talk to about getting into some kind of relationship with is usually in NYC or further. It's tough.
