Status: offline 		Hi all, i hate to ask this here, i am looking for the thread on lactation. I have spent the last 2 hours looking for it and have not found the correct one, so i am hoping someone may have it book marked. It has a step by step break down of what to do, what diet and suppliments, and a list of links with other various information. Any help finding this would be appreciated.

Status: offline 		dont understand all of the hype and hoodoo surrounding the lactation process. my wife and i induced her to lactate for me 15 yrs ago and she is STILLfeeding me from her breasts.

it doesnt take any supplements or special equipment, just dedication and commitment.

in order to induce lactation all that is necessary is that she is willing and you learn to nurse. nature supplies everything else

nursing is not just sucking on a nipple. just sucking will not start milk. nipple stimulation starts milk and sucking helpsthe stimulation and the flow.

you must latch onto the nipple and the aereola (the dark area around the nipple) placing the tongue so that your sucking motion slides the nipple gently up and down.

do this 15-20 minutes at a time to each breast every 3 to 4 hours and she will be feeding you in no time. (about a month, but it goes by fast and enjoyably)

Anytime I hear about this I always think "Were these men breast fed as babies or not" I know in the 60's, formula had came out and it was no longer fashionable to breast feed.

and it just stop! It is painful and I was told by someone
who nursed someone for three years your nipples with lose their
feelings after a time, it this true for adult you nusres other adults?

Same protocols would probably work since men can lactate too...might take more time on the breast pump though on the highest level of course.

Status: offline 		As someone who is currently victim to the breast pump 8 times a day for the more usual reason, all I can say is ouch.

It's been a difficult and miserable process, and that's with the benefit of pregnancy and birth to kick start it. I can't imagine the dedication it would take to do this from nothing. I also wonder at people's expectations. The vast majority of women who induce lactation don't get large amounts of milk and need a hell of a lot of work to maintain even what they have. There seems to be a lot of misconceptions that you can just buy a fifty dollar breast pump and get milk within a week.

I only say this because I see a lot of profiles in which the male is looking for a female to lactate and has lots of pictures of women producing vast quantities of milk. I wonder if they realise that to do this she will have to sacrifice sleep and pump at work, and all the discomfort that comes with it.

My husband isn't into breastmilk, thank goodness, so he has no desire for me to keep this up longer than is necessary.

Edit to add: this isn't aimed at anyone in particular. I know some people can and do achieve this. I just see some unrealistic stuff out there and it is (literally) a sore point for me at the moment.

I nursed two babies back to back for a total of 4 years. My nipples have never lost feeling.

Status: offline 		When I was nursing my baby it was torture at first. She would latch on while I had a death grip on the arm of the chair. Thankfully that did not last too long before my nipples did adjust and it was not pure torture every time.

Status: offline 		Okay yes. The breasts are VERY tender initially but what I am saying is that prolonged breast feeding does not desensitize the nipple as far as I know.

Status: offline 		Like completely lost feeling?? No I don't think they would ever completely loose feeling. I know people who did extended breastfeeding until their kids were toddlers and then another baby came along and none of them ever completely lost feeling.
