SoftBonds -> Sterilize all men fathering abortions, Pro or Con, discuss... (2/28/2012 3:03:43 PM)

I think this might actually be a better idea, for several reasons.
1. It puts onus on the person who, if a scoffow, would otherwise avoid all responsibility.
2. It is much easier for a man to repeat the action of getting a woman pregnant who cannot with his help financially support the child. Also, a single man could cause several women to need abortions, while other men never cause that need.
3. Lets face it, the procedure is cheaper and easier.

This is fucking ridiculous. Why the hell should either gender be sterilized?

MusicalBoredom -> RE: Sterilize all men fathering abortions, Pro or Con, discuss... (2/28/2012 3:10:17 PM)

I'm fairly sure that's satire.

The progressives sterilized women back in the early part of the 20th Century because they thought they knew better. I wouldn't be surprised to hear todays progressives push for male sterilization.

It was originally intended to be, but...
Think about it, there is plenty of outrage against women who have multiple kids and are on welfare, but what are we doing about the fathers?
Why sterilize anyone? Well, to save money, to provide better outcomes for the children who are born, to drop the abortion rate significantly...
It serves two purposes I have been advocating for some time. 1. It places an onus on fathers of children born out of wedlock who don't take care of the mother of their child. 2. It reduces the number of unwanted children and the number of men who have children by 3 or more women.
Now, anyone want to tell me a negative affect?

These are the exact same arguments that the progressives put forth in the early 1900's (but with women). See the SCOTUS case Buck vs. Bell. Been there, done that; nothing new to see here!

The negative effect? Well it's perhaps the most totalitarian measure that could ever be put forth by a government.

But...I'm sure a lot of progressive women would agree with you. They bitch about their reproductive rights (which admittedly are under attack), but at the same time many of them would love nothing more than to sterilize a bunch of men.

SoftBonds -> RE: Sterilize all men fathering abortions, Pro or Con, discuss... (2/28/2012 3:24:12 PM)

OK, other than calling it totalitarian, what is the negative effect?
If you knocked up three women, and they all went and got abortions because you refused to take care of them financially (and would probably be unable to given that there were three of them), can the state not impose some punishment if they are looking at significant expenses?
Or do we not have a responsibility to the state that defends us?

There is always a risk of developing an "elite" race. Having access to sperm, DNA. medical histories....eugenics....

~chuckles

I proposed this on another thread.. sperm bank, snip snip

It was a joke.. but it does have its merits. If a man desires this choice, should it not be available to him?

No the state cannot impose punishment for this (they could but shouldn't). These women and men should take responsibility for their own actions. If they choose not to, then they pay the consequences.

If you don't buy this, then why stop at abortions? Why should anyone pay for the health care of a fatty, a smoker, or a drug addict. Why don't we ban tobacco, alcohol, sugar, soda, red meat, etc; we can save money!

Sure. If the male wants to go all snippy-snippy, then that's his choice.

What do all the single Dads who do an amazing job raising well adjusted kids and abstaining from all the fun for years get?

I support the sterilization of men in these situations as much as I support women being sterilized in the post about them being sterilized.
