At this point, the candidates aren't going to be picking up many new supporters. We all know who they are at this point. In Romney's case, he would be better off if he named his VP soon. I'm pretty sure that he wants to name Rand Paul as VP, which would help to collect the more conservative vote, but with Ron Paul being in the race this situation is complicated. Marco Rubio would be an alternative, but I think that would be Gingrich or Santorum's man, as he dabbled in Mormonism himself and many Americans are not too warm with that idea.

He will hold it off till the convention, one to be conventional, and two, if he needs votes to parley he can direct it by choice of VP. Too early to shoot blanks on this one, nobody remembers yesterday at convention or november. And super tuesday still looms, and it is a horse apiece if he is in trouble after.................It would be a colossal waste of a crisis right now.

He will hold off until the convention because after Super tuesday, the nomination will probably be close to a forgone conclusion but he still needs people in the party to kiss his ass. The only way to do that is to give them a slim hope that either they or someone who owes them a favor will get the VEEP spot. If he announces too soon, all those people will stop ass kissing and start back stabbing.

This is where the real pissing is going to start, I believe that last time there was a race anywhere near this contentious you weren't even a gleam in your dad's eye. That was the year John Anderson secured victory for Ronald Reagan in the general election with his remarkable side show. It wasn't NEAR as certain before that guy's candidacy went indy. I don't however think the republicans have a rabbit for the hat this time. But this circus you see playing out is going to be a wild ride for some time to come. This'll sound crazy, but if Santorum and Gingrich are card players, Gingrich is going to take the dive days before super tuesday and throw his support enthusiastically behind Santorum. And if Ron Paul wasn't simply the foil-headed mental patient we all know he is, he would follow suit. That would really clear Romney's clock and give republicans a chance to bargain for their future. If it goes with the Romney/Rubio ticket. That means Republicans become the feed cattle of The John Paulson / Paul Singer cabal like for a LONG way into the future. Too bad republicans are smart enough to realize they have the EXTRAORDINARY OPPORTUNITY to take their part back and heal it, but they're pussies and will probably vote the sterile vote of "I THINK he can beat Obama" ... Poor bastards. Course... maintain a coldhearted attitude toward your fellow man long enough and it comes back to fuck ya.

Actually, according to HuffPost, Romney didn't exactly "win" MI. Romney did get more votes than Santorum, but because MI isn't a winner-take-all state, they each ended up with 15 delegates. It was a TERRIBLE performance for Romney and the funny thing is that HE KNEW it was coming ... they were trying to diminish the value of the state for like a week beforehand.

I only know one person from Michigan personally. And the only discussion we've ever had about politics was in 09. And he was FURIOUS that the republicans (in his words had over a decade, but particularly in recent years) left his state for dead. And Jim is a republican still as far as I they may have a lot of backlash over auto industry issues in particular that make them vote across party lines, or even stay home. I'm no expert as I say. Wow ... I knew old George was popular but an 80k lead... today, 1/4 of that is a crushing landslide in a state election even in a big state. I remember this about him... I think he went up in the primaries against Nixon and i remember my Dad saying something to the effect of I hope that Bobby runs against at least decent opponent like Romney. Nixon is <pick an expletive>" ... Since he was a staffer in Kennedy's campaign... he had no love for Nixon. Anyway, not that it's good to hear anybody got fucked or let down at bailout time cause well, we're all neighbors to an extent and what hurts out there, hurts back here. But it's good to better understand the background from people who are more familiar with the local situation. If you don't mind my asking, is Flint really as bad as they make out in news pieces? A couple of years ago they were making Flint and Detroit sound like no man's lands. Or was that just hype?

Do you actually understand american politics,naming a VP while the nomination is still in doubt would blow up in his face,it would be seen as the height of hubris and would make his"my wife drives a few Cadillacs"seem trivial. I was also born and raised in Detroit. I always compare Detroit to Stalingrad in 1944 (that comparison isn't too far off).
