However, using the same standard you wish to apply to the late Senator Byrd, according to you I am still a member of the Episcopalian Church and follow all it's teachings, rules and dogma to this day.

Thats correct but it was a point specifically about attempting to tap into populism rather than the essence of their politics - white nationists using popular causes with an ethical tone as a gateway or palate cleanser to the rest of their politics. Seems a relatively common political strategy.
