KKK chicken.

You can either be appalled at the use of KKK or at the school's lack of caring about spelling.

tazzygirl -> RE: Pick your issue. (3/1/2012 5:38:25 PM)

The school's stupidity over spelling is more of a concern.

Kaliko -> RE: Pick your issue. (3/1/2012 5:39:16 PM)

The Food Service Director is an idiot.

Musicmystery -> RE: Pick your issue. (3/1/2012 7:31:49 PM)

Or a "bigiot."

SoftBonds -> RE: Pick your issue. (3/1/2012 7:40:07 PM)

Did you notice one of the comments on the article was someone saying people were being "too sensitive?"
I can just hear someone saying "Just cause someone burnt a cross on your lawn, you don't have to get upset..."
Morons...

Edit: Oops, it was "touchy," not "sensitive." Quote below:

Imagine if White people were this touchy! I guess it's time for us to.
scrutinize every word that's spoken and written so we can all fight about.
something and sue one another! This is way out of control. Terrorized!
The kids wouldn't even know it if someone wasn't teaching racism.

"the Nutrition Department [said] that "KKK Chicken" stood for "Crispy, Crunchy Chicken"

I can only imagine the Spelling Bee's in THAT school! [:D]

Musicmystery -> RE: Pick your issue. (3/1/2012 7:53:16 PM)

They can't count either, unless KKK Chicken is "Crispy, Crunchy, Chicken Chicken."

Hey, I like Chicken Chicken, it's the extra chicken flavor that makes it taste more like chicken...
Of course, even better is Chicken chicken with extra chicken flavor...

servantforuse -> RE: Pick your issue. (3/1/2012 9:26:05 PM)

I'm more concerned about what happens in the classroom. This is a non issue..

SternSkipper -> RE: Pick your issue. (3/1/2012 9:43:47 PM)

Yeah Steven... they had that happen at the Roger Aisles Elementary School ... we were all shocked....

You know, with the fucking fiscal date rape Romney started and Patrick really can't stop because the legislature is all "we're afraid of the tea party revolution"... I am astonished when particularly locals CAN'T UNDERSTAND THEY ARE NOT HIRING RHODES SCHOLARS FOR THEIR FRIGGING $8.00 an hour[:D]

On the bright side, Manchester by the Sea has a laid off woman who used to work as an Exec at Oracle cooking the chicken. And she spells everything right and goes out back to take the foreclosure calls from Deutsche Bank.
Here in Gloucester it's mostly parents volunteering at this point to back up like 6 food service professionals across 9 (I think) schools. And my kids best friend's mom is Head Nutritionist for one of the big hospitals in Boston, so we're among 10 communities with programs like this:

http://youtu.be/l_P-n7VwH3U
But the bottom line is the "my kids are through with school... fuck the rest of em" cut enough to do serious damage in terms of what the towns can spend on food programs.

BTW - seekingOwnertoo

"I can only imagine the Spelling Bee's in THAT school!"

Given that it's Methuen... Probably at knifepoint - Think metal detector at the middle school.

DaddySatyr -> RE: Pick your issue. (3/1/2012 9:46:07 PM)

I wouldn't exactly call it a non-issue (the usage of "KKK"). I'm not sure where to land on this one. In my mind, there's two possibilities:

1) The person that wrote up the menu is a complete moron and horrid speller

B) They are a racist and thought that "slipping one in under the wire" would be "fun"

Either way, for me, the refusal to change it was a bit callouse. I'm not sure I can support that choice. It doesn't take a whole lot of effort, even on the old (Michael's about to show his age) mimeograph machines. I don't see why new menus couldn't have been produced.

Peace and comfort,

Michael

xssve -> RE: Pick your issue. (3/1/2012 9:58:31 PM)

Well if it was "Baked Global Warming Chicken", it would be irrefutable evidence of sinister conspiracy foisted by skulking, hoody eyed liberals.

So, I'm inclined to think it the work of tight assed redneck yahoos, or some bigot, bigiot, bigidiot.

I just don't see how anybody could be that clueless.

IMHO, 'bigot' and 'stupid' are pretty much the same damn thing.

Why would folks whose kids have finished school, or who have no kids, care about the schools? It isn't like they get any benefit from the kids having education, a place to be, socialization, etc., right?
Undisciplined, undereducated teenagers with no hope for the future? Nah, no danger to others from that...
(goes to watch Clockwork Orange again...)

Hmm, will have to check into this down my way. Wednesday night, I helped cook dinner for 30 kids and 15 staff/volunteers in Roxbury and really enjoyed it.

While I got a kick out of being dubbed Gordon Ramsey, I was clearly the only one with any professional experience, as esoteric as that experience has been.

I'm looking for part time admin work, yoga teaching, and volunteering - I did this for two years in NY and that was a really good balance for me.

I don't know if I could volunteer in a school cafeteria without getting all Jamie Oliver on them, though.

Hey, school was available to Alex; he was too tired from the "mostly odd things he does, helping like, here and there as it might be" at night to go. He had plenty of socialization too [:D]

Rrrrrrrrriiiight ... it's just some stupid social contract we've been entered into since the inception of the public school system.... something about opportunity for all and helping to maintain a civilized society.

FR

So what can we expect next?

Nazi Nachos?

Bin Laden Burgers?
