Yeah Obama needs to talk about the 'real issues' like cell phone towers. My God. Who exactly is Maher bigoted against? Are we about to get a 'pity the poor white man' rant? The last time we had a 'real budget', ie a balanced one, was when Clinton was in office. The last Republican to balance a budget was Eisenhower. The last Republican to not, at a minimum, double the deficit was Nixon.

Tweak, paleos still believe in supply side. If I have to cajole someone to see what should be plain on their face, that trickle down economics doesn't work, then they should just go ahead and stay with the GOP. The Dem caucus has enough BLue Dogs as it is.

lol

Fake Paleo!

There are no Paleos left in the GOP. I mean. Don't you remember when Frum threw all of them out?

If you understood that a woman takes the Pill every day, whether she is having sex that day or not, irrespective of the number of partners she has, why would you call it "her right to subsidized promiscuity?"

A couple reasons, Kalikshama. For one, to highlight that people right here on this planet, with a legitimate stake in the discussion, and legitimate rights to their beliefs, and free expression of them, have differing values, and interpretations of behavior.

Oh...more of "my inalienable right to speak gibberish".......

Can we stick to the topic......?

We all know our rights are and pretending they`re infringed upon is getting old?

In what universe did employers become their employee`s doctors?

Is this going to be part of the GOP health-care plan?

Of course you are entitled to your beliefs. I'm looking for the rationale behind them.

Yes. I too am going to find it illuminating to see how TheHeretic charts the descent from the lofty ideals he claims motivates his posts to the scurrilous deceitful crap (eg "subsidized promiscuity") that actually comprise his posts.

The two are so far apart that I doubt any rational connection can be established.

Of course it comes down to the Presidents changing the rule on contraception!!! dontcha know.
Its got nothing to do with the hard christian right seeping pus into the legislature against any woman who wants to decide about their own reproduction and rights over their own bodies. The bills against abortion, the bills for trans vaginal invasion, the bills for personhood rights decimating the rights of a womans own body carrying the "fetus". Nothing at all to do with that, its the loony leftists taking things all out of proportion.
/sarcasm

Ok.. but this particular issue is being created by Catholics who do not like being told what to do. They want to fight this tooth and nail.

Im not sure how many are aware, but prior to this, they only had to provide contraceptives if they provided a prescription plan. No prescription plan, no contraceptives. I would be curious to see if that part of the rule changed.

I respect their beliefs... I also acknowledge that 98% of Catholics use some form of birth control. If they do not have the support of their own members, why are they trying to push that off on everyone else?

Lucylastic -> RE: The Voice of American Conservatism? (3/4/2012 11:49:22 AM)

I didnt want to attack all catholics, but rather the politicians who are putting forward the doctrine and dogma, in these bills, amendments, refusing to listen to a woman in a hearing, all this is fifty years too late.
Expecting everyone to align with catholic dogma is ridiculous ancient thinking.that they want the right to deny non catholics, especially those that work for them is more egregious than mandating insurance companies cover birth control with 98 % of their own flock use the said contraception. Maybe they would have more truck if 98% of the flock wasnt following their personal rules.

tazzygirl -> RE: The Voice of American Conservatism? (3/4/2012 11:57:57 AM)

True, its the Dogma, and those leaders of the Church. And its all about politics, not about religion. Just another argument towards a NHS.

I thought the only thing that was changing this year from the 2000 EEOC ruling was that under the Affordable Care Act, since contraception comes under preventative care, there can be no copay (?)

http://www.whitehouse.gov/the-press-office/2012/02/10/fact-sheet-women-s-preventive-services-and-religious-institutions

FACT SHEET: Women’s Preventive Services and Religious Institutions

February 10, 2012

Thanks to the Affordable Care Act, most health insurance plans will cover women’s preventive services, including contraception, without charging a co-pay or deductible beginning in August, 2012. This new law will save money for millions of Americans and ensure Americans nationwide get the high-quality care they need to stay healthy.

Today, President Obama will announce that his Administration will implement a policy that accommodates religious liberty while protecting the health of women. Today, nearly 99 percent of all women have used contraception at some point in their lives, but more than half of all women between the ages of 18-34 struggle to afford it.

Under the new policy to be announced today, women will have free preventive care that includes contraceptive services no matter where she works. The policy also ensures that if a woman works for a religious employer with objections to providing contraceptive services as part of its health plan, the religious employer will not be required to provide, pay for or refer for contraception coverage, but her insurance company will be required to directly offer her contraceptive care free of charge.

The new policy ensures women can get contraception without paying a co-pay and fully accomodates important concerns raised by religious groups by ensuring that objecting non-profit religious employers will not have to provide contraceptive coverage or refer women to organizations that provide contraception. Background on this policy is included below:

• Under Section 2713 of the Affordable Care Act, the Administration adopted new guidelines that will require most private health plans to cover preventive services for women without charging a co-pay starting on August 1, 2012. These preventive services include well women visits, domestic violence screening, and contraception, and all were recommended to the Secretary of Health and Human Services by the independent Institute of Medicine of the National Academy of Science.

Thats the part Im not sure about. Under the mandate, can they simply drop prescription plans... or is there a requirement to pick them up?

This one?

“No one with daughters the age of Sandra Fluke, and I have two, could possibly abide the insult and abuse heaped upon this courageous and well-intentioned young lady. Mr. Limbaugh, with his highly personal attacks on Miss Fluke, overstepped any reasonable bounds of decency. Even though Mr. Limbaugh has now issued an apology, we have nonetheless decided to withdraw our advertising from his show. We hope that our action, along with the other advertisers who have already withdrawn their ads, will ultimately contribute to a more civilized public discourse.”

A 7th advertiser backs away from Limbaugh's show after he calls law student "slut"

By Associated Press, Updated: Sunday, March 4, 2:46 PM

NEW YORK — A flower company is the 7th advertiser in recent days to say it is pulling ads from conservative talk show host Rush Limbaugh’s radio program.

ProFlowers says on its Facebook page that it has suspended advertising on Limbaugh’s program because his comments about Georgetown University law student Sandra Fluke “went beyond political discourse to a personal attack and do not reflect our values as a company.”

The company had said on Twitter that posts it received about Limbaugh’s remarks affected how it dealt with its advertising partners.

Cell phone towers aren't the issue, HSF. Taking away local authority, over local matters, that impact local lives, is a solid, kitchen-table, kind of issue.

Do you watch Maher's show? Do you see the contempt he continually expresses for people of faith? I quit watching because I found it offensive, and I'm not a Christian.

Why does my race matter, in the subjects of my rants?

A budget, period, HSF. You know. As in, a document that presents an accounting the American citizen of how our money is being spent?

Oh, and welcome to the forums. [:)]

Nice!

"Over the past two days we have received a tremendous amount of feedback on Rush Limbaugh’s recent comments. I too am offended and very concerned about his comments. Limbaugh’s remarks have us rethinking our future use of talk radio.

We use more than 40 talk show hosts to help get the Carbonite message out to the public. The nature of talk radio is that from time to time listeners are offended by a host and ask that we pull our advertising. This goes for conservatives like Limbaugh and progressives like Stephanie Miller and Ed Shultz. We even get customers who demand that we pull the plug on NPR. As an advertiser, we do not have control over a show’s editorial content or what they say on air. Carbonite does not endorse the opinions of the shows or their hosts.

However, the outcry over Limbaugh is the worst we’ve ever seen. I have scheduled a face-to-face meeting next week with Limbaugh during which I will impress upon him that his comments were offensive to many of our customers and employees alike.

Please know your voice has been heard and that we are taking this matter very seriously.

Sincerely,
David Friend"
