SternSkipper -> George Will... Republican Leaders Are Afraid of Rush Limbaugh (3/4/2012 10:51:35 AM)

Again, George Will talks about the whole "slut" episode with Rush Limbaugh in the manner it really NEEDS to be looked at... I hate having to "like" Will (but those feelings harken back to his 1995 remarks in that August Time Magazine).. So maybe it's just time to hear the guy out for a change. He's CERTAINLY making more sense these days than the hierarchy of the
GOP.

Good Article- George Will: Republican Leaders Are Afraid of Rush Limbaugh

Conservative radio host Rush Limbaugh has been inundated with criticism after calling Sandra Fluke, a Georgetown University student who testified before a House committee about contraception, a “slut” and a “prostitute.” But while Democrats have fiercely condemned the comments, Republicans’ ire has been significantly more muted.

ABC’s George Will told me Sunday on “This Week” that GOP leaders have steered clear of harshly denouncing Limbaugh’s comments because “Republican leaders are afraid of Rush Limbaugh.”

“[House Speaker John] Boehner comes out and says Rush’s language was inappropriate. Using the salad fork for your entrée, that’s inappropriate. Not this stuff,” Will said. “And it was depressing because what it indicates is that the Republican leaders are afraid of Rush Limbaugh. They want to bomb Iran, but they’re afraid of Rush Limbaugh.”

This is what condemnations from fellow Republicans should sound like:

Wall Street Journal columnist Peggy Noonan said during the “This Week” Round Table that Limbaugh’s comments “confused the issue.”

“It played into this trope that the Republicans have a war on women. No, they don’t, but he made it look they that way,” Noonan said. ”It confused the larger issue, which is the real issue, which is ‘Obama-care,’ and its incursions against religious freedoms, which is a serious issue. It was not about this young lady at Georgetown.”

Noonan said Limbaugh’s comments were “crude, rude, even piggish” and that they were “deeply destructive and unhelpful.”

“It was just unacceptable, he ought to be called on it,”
she said. “I’m glad he has apologized.”

Since I have a straggler ... I'll respond.
Ya know... this has become the M.O. of GOP Media...

Say something that is a completely vicious attack on a particular group of "person of note" on their hitlist, and then count about three days and then make thinly veiled apologies and act "a little" embarrassed and then pretend people like the assailant are marginal in the structure of the GOP.
And the end users are always "But what can I do". Like there aren't enough of them to write and circulate a fucking petition. Imagine the difference in perception of the GOP if they and their members TRULY cleaned up their own act.

Yep. An hour ago, I was just thinking of a Dem attack ad for this fall. Contrast Obama as the man who took out OBL, to the GOP as a bunch of little wussy boys terrified to stand up to Rush.

Hillwilliam -> RE: George Will... Republican Leaders Are Afraid of Rush Limbaugh (3/4/2012 12:00:24 PM)

I wonder what would have happened if the young lady had been monogamously married and Rush would have found out there was an angry husband wanting to stomp a mudhole in the fat ass of the guy calling his wife a slut.

Owner59 -> RE: George Will... Republican Leaders Are Afraid of Rush Limbaugh (3/4/2012 12:11:51 PM)

More proof that rush IS the voice of conservatism today........in spite of the denialists who "don`t listen" listen to the shitsterer.......or was that shit-stirrer?

One of her stories was about a married student:

Just last week, a married female student told me that she had to stop using contraception because she and her husband just couldn't fit it into their budget anymore. Women employed in low-wage jobs without contraceptive coverage face the same choice.

An ad like that would get Obama elected for sure.

The GOP has long managed to paint the Dems as a bunch of weenies and the Republicans as the party of real men. Dukakis fell to that, and Kerry as well. Oddly enough, they didn't try to portray POW survivor McCain as a macho man - maybe he just looked too grandfatherly at the time.

They've tried to paint Obama as some prissy elite Harvard snob at times, but it hasn't IMO held up well.

But Mitt Romney is almost tailor-made for being painted as some favorite son that's never worked, never had to fight, and led a gilded life, while Obama muscled his way out of single parent poverty and took out OBL. His spineless whisper against Limbaugh plays right into that.

Of course, that's assuming Romney wins. If Santorum wins, the Dems get to pick and choose how to win the election.

Couldn't have said it better myself... From here on I promise to stop looking at your avatar and saying to myself 'I swear Steven looks like Omar Sharif just took a huge bong hit and headed into the john with his digital camera for a few laughs"
