Marini -> USA has record high gas prices for March! (3/5/2012 8:52:27 PM)

Gas prices have gone up 7 cents this week, most of us are feeling the pain
at the pump.
According to ABC news, this is the highest price recorded in March, based on data going back to 1990.

Highest gas prices ever recorded for March in the US

This makes sense to me, because I don't recall gas prices being this high in March, and I have been driving about 30 years {I started driving as a child}.

I have no doubt, we will probably see $5.00 a gallon prices in most area's before May.

How do you think this will effect the economy?

Do you think we are reaching a point, where the price of gas will stay fairly high, like it is in Europe?

Will $6 gas soon be a way of life?

I swear I am going to make that bumper stick I love:

Gas, Grass or Ass, no one rides free!
.....well, very few ride free!.......

The price of everything will go up
Depends on who wins in November
Not if we tell the evironuts and EPA to fuck off

Real0ne -> RE: USA has record high gas prices for March! (3/5/2012 9:05:10 PM)

yep another round of dollar devaluation. well under a penny. Fed reserve has a great record since 1933.

How about we tie wages paid directly into the gas prices?

Here we go with the usual partisan bullshit, the price of gas
will not go down if one of the riddlers from batman wins the Republican
nomination.

Tell the truth, couldn't Romney play the riddler in batman?

Nice of you to admit the gas prices are a campaign tactic clearly demonstrating the alliance between big oil and the elephant men.

Yeah. Speculation and Iran have nothing to do with it.

Hey, what else in on TV?

About as much as the enviroweenies whining about spotted owl habitats, and the EPA blocking building any new drilling sites, or refineries... Just sayin

So how would the other contenders be cast? Santorum as The Joker? What about Newt? Paul? Huntsman? For that matter, what about Limburger?

Well then, rob, that's an amazingly naive view.

What about the speculators?

What about them?

If we're pumping oil form our sources, and refining them in our refineries to sell to our citizens, what is there to speculate about?

In case you didn't know. Oil futures are sold on the markets as a commodity. When investors think that the Ayatollah might have an untimely bowel movement, they artificially drive up the price of that commodity. This manipulation has been shown repeatedly to have much more of an effect on prices of petroleum products than simple supply and demand.

I thought you were more intelligent than that.

There is no speculation needed to see that you know nothing of the unregulated derivatives markets, especially the ICE and the effect on oil and other prices from speculative trading, the super tankers and other storage leased by some of these traders used to temporarily limit supply (including domestically produced). The majority of of former Enron traders moved to oil 'hedge' funds, and we (at least some of us) know the damage they did in CA with shutting down power plants to cause a shortage and raise prices.

The blissful ignorance also seems to extend to excluding the fact that the oil companies bought up many refineries in the 80s and 90s and promptly shut many of them down, 300 since 1980.

Edwynn -> RE: USA has record high gas prices for March! (3/6/2012 9:14:08 AM)

PS

The US produces 8% of world oil supply and consumes 25% of world oil supply. We can "drill baby, drill!" to our hearts content and never make up anywhere near that discrepancy, especially as long as we ignore technology and policies to reduce consumption. All that would happen is that we drill ourselves dry in 20-40 years and then have to import 100% of our oil.

The "drill baby, drill!" prescription is effectively economic trepanning.

May I also assume that you are not aware that our biggest EXPORT is refined petroleum products?

That's right, rob. We supposedly don't have enough oil so we need to "Drill Baby Drill" but we ship a significant portion of it out of the country.

Thank you for this post Edwynn.
I think we could drill ourselves "dry", in less than 20 years if we put our minds to it.

I don't think most Americans are ready for the possibility of a gallon of gas costing $6 - $7 for a long period of time.

Prices are near $4 a gallon in many states, and it's the first week of March.
Gas prices edge closer to $4 a gallon

Aren't high gas prices tied to health care and other "social" programs in Europe?

the price of gas has not changed too much, the value of the dollar on the other hand has.

Its so nice to know that our gubafia sanctions racketeering by the oil companies and speculators with essential necessities of life. Poor people and those on fixed income love the jingle of all that "change"

Here is a very long but informative article about why Europe is experiencing higher fuel costs than the states.

This quote is from the article " With no oil supply, and a modest but declining natural gas supply, Eurozone countries can expect to spend more money on oil and gas imports in the future, assuming that they can get these products when they want them."

Why Europe is Experiencing Higher oil prices than the US

Who knows how high gas could go in Europe? $20 a gallon? Or is it already $20 a gallon over there?
More questions than answers for the USA and Europe?
Thanks erieangel!
