As I said in another thread; I haven't been much of a pure capitalist for quite some time but, this is the way the free market is supposed to work.
Rush says something stupid, ignorant, and lout-ish, advertisers decide they're going to ride the wave of free publicity and bail and the people decide how they feel about the advertisers' stance. It's all about the money. Of course it is.
I pondered, on another thread: "If Limbaugh is still number one, a year from now and some of these advertisers who decided to 'suspend' or 'step back for a while' decide that the storm has ebbed and they want to come back, would Rush actually refuse them re-access? He seemed to suggest as much on the air, on Tuesday ...

If this program were about the advertising... (laughing) you don't know the kind of commercials you'd be treated to. I reject millions of dollars of advertising a year, much to the chagrin of my hardworking sales staff. Millions, folks, including, I might add, General Motors. What would you have thought, if, after the government took over General Motors, I started advertising General Motors? I made the decision not to accept that because you, the audience, come first.
I've always felt that loyalty is something that is lacking in a lot of areas of our current life. I wonder if it will be held in as high a regard by Mr. Limbaugh.
The only way that we, the "common" people can show our support or disdain for anything is by "voting" with our dollars. If ProFlowers (the first rat off this particular "sinking ship") experiences a drop in their profit margin, will they wonder what happened or will they realize that they might have called the pot a bit too early?
I haven't listened to Mr. Limbaugh in ages . My talk radio choice is WFAN the highest billing sports talk station in the country. On rare occasion, I have caught a few minutes of Limbaugh's show, when I was dial-surfing during a commercial. I, obviously, have heard the odd commercial there, also.
After perusing the list of bailing advertisers, it's interesting to me that of all of his advertisers, the ones that I use the least are some of the first ones, deserting.
A "culling of the herd", perhaps? Maybe these advertisers were questioning the effectiveness of this particular market, anyway?
Either way, the process will play out based upon dollars and I wonder if the companies that profited so well for so many years will feel the pain and look for the nearest gang plank or mooring line to re-gain access (just to complete my "rats leaving a sinking ship" analogy.
