tweakabelle -> Super Tuesday or Super Fizzer? (3/7/2012 1:03:40 PM)

Super Tuesday has come and gone and we seem little the wiser.

How do people feel about the outcome? Has anything changed? Will the Rep race be open all the way to the Convention? Will the faithful ever warm to Mitt? Can Santorum pull off one of the great political miracles? Is Obama the big winner in all of this? Are people more interested in Rush's fate than selecting the GOP nominee?

I'd love to hear people's reactions to Super Tuesday and its aftermath

Fizzer. No surprises.

Mitt will be nominated. No one else knows how to run a campaign. Conservatives will whine. Paul will whine. Then they'll all vote for Romney, who will have a tough fight against Obama, since it will be hard to use the health care issue. Ads will be nasty. Obama will squeak through.

slvemike4u -> RE: Super Tuesday or Super Fizzer? (3/7/2012 1:26:06 PM)

Nothing at all changed.Romney was the presumptive Republican candidate prior to "Super Tuesday" he is still the presumptive candidate.
So....all in all a big fizz.Santurom had a good enough showing to continue,Gingrich won Georgia so he will delude himself into continuing...and Paul is just nuts,so he ain't going away.
The landscape is the same

DarkSteven -> RE: Super Tuesday or Super Fizzer? (3/7/2012 3:10:15 PM)

Santorum was so stupid he didn't get registered in all counties. You'd think he would have learned after he did the exact same thing in VA. He's dumb as a brick and out of the 18th century and Romney still can barely beat him.

It appears to be a mathematical impossibility; if I recall a similar NPR story correctly, Santorum would have to win New York as part of this 65%.

The Romney officials said that Romney only needs to win 48 percent of the remaining delegates, while he has won 53 percent so far, and that Santorum would have to win 65 percent of the delegates outstanding, but has won only 22 percent to this point.

Yes!

Super Tuesday revealed a considerable lack of enthusiasm with the entire Republican field of candidates. Voter turnout was down considerably from 2008 across many of the primary states, despite the closeness of the race. There were approximately 225,000 fewer voters casting ballots in the Virginia primary, 140,000 fewer voters in the Massachusetts primary, 60,000 fewer voters in the Oklahoma primary, 50,000 fewer voters casting ballots in the Georgia primary, and 3,000 fewer voters in the Tennessee primary. Only the Vermont and Ohio primaries showed increases in turnout.

Another fizzer.....a virtual tie again.....tho Mitt`s gonna get more delegates.

However....with no decisive wins......Mitt`s been described by Rick as "uniquely unqualified"........ to run against President Obama.Only thing is,Rick is just as uniquely unqualified.

Miserlou -> RE: Super Tuesday or Super Fizzer? (3/7/2012 8:29:47 PM)

i'm disgusted at santorum's win here.

overall i don't think anything has changed, romney is still way out in front in delegate count and will probably stay that way. things will get even nastier but the end result will be romney vs. obama, and i think obama will win.

i'm pretty much resigned to that outcome, and not really all that uncomfortable with it.

Romney could be in trouble. He's only won 53% of the delegates so far and needs to win 48% of the remaining ones. His fear isn't someone else winning a majority of the delegates, it's himself not wrapping it up on the first ballot. If he doesn't, all hell breaks loose.

It saddens me to note that there's not a single offering from our stable of resident Right wing pundits and GOP sympathisers on this thread to date.

I wonder why that might be .....embarrassment? despair? pessimism? resignation? a sense of hopelessness? something else?

The only optimism I see at that end of the political spectrum is in the Frothy Mix camp. I can't help suspecting that is due to Frothy Mix surviving this long and reaching the position of prominence he has as much as anything else. No one really expected his candidacy to be still viable at this stage did they?

Is that in itself a comment on the (absence of) quality in the field?

To get a true picture of the lethargic temperature this cycle contrast their silence now with the energetic vitriol they were spouting at this point in 2008
We are talking the difference between nigh and day [:)]

TheHeretic -> RE: Super Tuesday or Super Fizzer? (3/7/2012 9:44:37 PM)

The most interesting result of the day, from my perspective, was Paul coming out with 40% of the Virginia vote. Too many people just don't like Mitt, and he can't get over that hump.

Steve, I said it would be time to speculate on a convention fight if Super Tuesday didn't settle it out. It might be a good thing.

No need to rub it in.

It's not like the good old days when Mitt's papa, George, was in the primaries against R. Nixon and Nelson Rockefeller.

Here we have Santorum and Gingrich. I can almost see Mitt looking skyward and pleading, "Why have you abandoned me?"

Well I can't speak for anyone else on the right, but I hadn't commented on it until now because this is the first time I saw it. But go ahead and assume it's because they are.....embarrassment? despair? pessimism? resignation? a sense of hopelessness? something else?

Do you think the use of "frothy mix" makes you sound more intelligent or less? Do you honestly think that will make people take you more seriously?

Will the faithful ever warm to Mitt?

Can Santorum pull off one of the great political miracles?
If he does, the whole world is in deeep shit, and not the frothy kind

Is Obama the big winner in all of this?
Absolutely

Are people more interested in Rush's fate than selecting the GOP nominee?
With as many lies as have been told and pushed as agendas, its just another chapter in the war on women. Their Biggest Mistake of the last two years.

I'd love to hear people's reactions to Super Tuesday and its aftermath.
What a fucking stoopid rigmarole. What a waste of money. Altho, That is a constant issue for me, (the amount of time and money spent making sure the rich get someone in their pockets, the average Joe and Joesephine isnt important) but that means the same for Canadian politics, and UK politics, not just the repubs.
If Mitt doesnt get it, even with all the BS, I will be very surprised

Tweak, I invariably agree with you and disagree with thishereboi on political issues but I'm with her on the use of "frothy mix" lowering credibility.

You reckon that might be all of the whores on birth control not turning out to vote, then?
