This is what is wrong with the Republican Party:

quote:

A good thing about GWB, he proved once and for all the hypocrisy of the GOP and the right wing. They'd never support a draft dodger who couldn't even fulfill his NG obligation until they did. They'd never support someone who drastically expanded the federal government until they did. They'd never support anyone who wanted to reduce our rights until they did.

Clearly the Republican Party is in splinters. They have no unified direction. Even an election with only one "Republican" candidate, is like an election where a second "Republican" runs as an Independent (Thank you, Ross) - doomed to failure because of the fissures in the Republican Party.

Peace and comfort,

Michael

from the link above:
Interest groups and partisans, like the ones who organize and attend CPAC, care a great deal about policy and ideology, not just about electability, and they decide who gets nominated. Zaller and his colleagues dub them “intense policy demanders,” which, in today’s G.O.P., includes all the familiar factions: religious leaders, gun enthusiasts, business élites, anti-tax activists, foreign-policy hawks. Their mission is to find the most extreme candidate who can win.

Yep.
