i changed my colors for You
As You shaped me
Into what You wanted me
To be.

You had good stock, You said
Though i doubted it.
Still, i trusted You
And shed my skin
On the rocks
Of Your desires.

How was i the worthy one?
How did i deserve
Your attentions, Your gifts,
Your time, and Your talent?

Of all the others
who threw themselves at Your feet,
You chose me.
You
Picked
me.

And You threw me
On Your wheel.
You spun me 'round,
You wetted me
With Your tears,
Shaped me with Your hands
And pressed me down with the weight of Your heart.

You fired me in the heat
Of Your all-consuming passion,
And fired me again in the kiln
Of Your dark obsession.

There were times
i thought You'd break me.
The heat was intense
A blazing sun in my darkness.
Moments i thought You'd
shattered me, stretched beyond my limits.
But You kindly, gently
Patched me up
And dressed my wounds
With gentle words
And a soft touch.

One day, many months later,
this old warhorse awoke.
i raised my head
Picked up my sword
And stood at Your side
The perfect weapon
The perfect shield.
Beside You, on the right, a half-pace behind
Just like You taught me.

We fought together, You and i
Ate together, slept together
Breathed together.
A Lady and her champion.
When the time came, though
We did not die together--
The one journey You made alone.
i begged, pleaded to go along
But You told me to stay.

I listened. I obeyed.
I'm still here.

A very moving poem with a sad ending.
I really liked it. You obeyed and you stayed alive.
I also liked your description of your Mistress and your relationship with her.
