http://news.yahoo.com/blogs/sideshow/first-amateur-video-challenger-shuttle-explosion-revealed-185802006.html

nothing I could say would express what I feel watching this...

Marc2b -> RE: Amateur video of Challenger (3/9/2012 1:08:58 PM)

It is so hard to watch, knowing what's about to happen.

GreedyTop -> RE: Amateur video of Challenger (3/9/2012 1:09:59 PM)

which is why I can't watch 9/11 vids.

LaTigresse -> RE: Amateur video of Challenger (3/9/2012 1:11:26 PM)

I am weird. Watching that stuff doesn't get to me.

GreedyTop -> RE: Amateur video of Challenger (3/9/2012 1:19:06 PM)

LaT..I'm good, except for the second tower. for some reason, that ALWAYS makes me sick to my stomach. I think it is because THAT was when it clicked in my brain that it wasn't "just a movie".

I was just kinda numb that whole day. We were watching it online here at work with a whole "oh my fucking god". Then G.D. messaged me with a "you know what this means don't you...?" and then that reality sunk in. So we were busy getting ready for him to be gone.

I think that the way my brain functions during any sort of scary, crazy, emergency, anything.....just turns the emotional stuff off.

Challenger just kinda flew under my radar and didn't affect me much for whatever reason.

i think it was 87    right? , i was 3 years old ....[8D]

GreedyTop -> RE: Amateur video of Challenger (3/9/2012 1:40:05 PM)

I saw the footage of the first tower, thought it was a movie. second tower - made it real. Friends, family in NY and military. THAT is when it got "real" for me.

Challenger - I love all things NASA/SPace related ec..

I was moving from CA to GA when Columbia blew. I was in TX. I knew nothing about it until I was on a call to the (now ex) BF and he asked me if I was ducking..

I can't see the Alabama license plates that say "the stars fell on Alabama" now without a big dish of morgue humour...

Unfortunately, this reminded me of a really bad joke about the Challenger disaster.

GreedyTop -> RE: Amateur video of Challenger (3/9/2012 1:55:00 PM)

go ahead!! it cant be worse than my associations!! LOL

DaddySatyr -> RE: Amateur video of Challenger (3/9/2012 1:57:36 PM)

Jan of '86. I remember the day, well. I also remember that I was listening to that pimple on the butt of humanity, Howard Stern and initially, I thought he was making a sick joke. He wasn't laughing or anything of the sort. No, to his credit, he was somber, measured, respectful and a comfort (I'm sure) to all of those listening to him.

When I got home, of course all of the television stations had pre-empted programming to cover this tragedy so, I saw the video so much, it's been burned into my memory.

Even though I can't stand the man and I wasn't listening to him, I have heard the entire audio of his behavior on 9/11/01 also and, again; he was exemplary.

Peace and comfort,

Michael

Only because you asked.

Where did the Challenger crew take their vacation? All over Florida.

During the actual event, I remember being just heartsick.

I'll unconfuse you:

I have never found Howard to be funny.

My boss inflicted him on us, every day.

In fairness, he was respectful and well-mannered.

FF to 2,001:

I didn't hear the original broadcast until someone posted it on Youtube and I listened to it, wondering if he had maintained the personal standard he had set in 1986. He did. Credit where credit is due.

Peace and comfort,

Michael
