Thanks for reminding me.... I'm gonna' watch it right now. Will let you know when I get back.

I almost gave up on it after the first 20 minutes... sorta' felt like Harry Potter meets Master's of the Universe in a bad spaghetti western. But I warmed up to it a little once we got to mars and a bit of plot unfolded. I am a big fan and I always liked the Barsoom books from the 20s the best.

Thuvia, Maid of Mars
The Chessmen of Mars
The Master Mind of Mars

The 11th book, John Carter of Mars came out in 16 years after the series stopped and and long after Burroughs died. It just didn't feel the same to me... perhaps because he didn't write all of it, his son did. So i guess I didn't expect much from the movie in the first place. At least it wasn't as bad as Disney's Black Hole.

I was a fan. Then Dejah Thoris laid eggs. That makes her a bug. That means that John Carter had SEX WITH A BUG!!!!!

EWWWWWWWWWWWWWW!

Your kink is SO not my kink at that point.

Maybe it makes her a chicken?

The movie is based, loosely, on Princess of Mars, the first novel not the 11tth.

Michael Chabon was one of the screenwriters?
That's interesting. But when there's more
than one screenwriter you can never know
who contributed what if anything.
The script could have passed through
multiple hands.

Even if only one writer had been credited on the screenplay you have no idea how much of the original screenplay even made it on film. The script is written, rewritten, changes are made during production. Editing. As well as changes made by director, nameless executives, etc. By the time the movie hits the screen it could resemble nothing that the original writer or even director had in mind.

My bad, I thought Princess of Mars started in his garden, a storm came, he fell, woke up on Mars. It's been over 20 years since I read the books. I just recall I liked Thuvia and for me, 3 of the books stood out from the rest. Thanks for the correction.
